Thinking of Starting a Craft Business? Start Here
Thinking of turning your craft into a business, but not quite sure where to start?

Or maybe you’ve already started and realised there’s a lot more to it than making beautiful things and putting them online.

Pricing. Selling. Marketing. Finding customers. Knowing what to focus on and what you can safely ignore.

I’ve been running my own handmade craft business for more than a decade, and I’ve learned plenty along the way. Some of it the easy way. Quite a lot of it the hard way.

That’s why I created the Makers Hub. It’s where I’ve brought together my practical craft business advice to help you start, grow, and make better decisions without wasting time on things that don’t matter.

No get-rich-quick promises. Just useful advice from someone who has actually done it.

What's The Best Fabric To use For Needle Felting Pictures?
Thinking of trying a needle felted picture but not sure what fabric to use? It really does depend on what you’re making.

Pre-felt is great for soft landscapes and textured backgrounds, while calico and linen give you a firmer surface for finer detail. Wool felt is another really useful option, especially for hoops, brooches and smaller projects.

In this guide I compare five different fabrics, explain what each one is best suited to, and also show you simple ways to transfer your design onto the fabric before you start felting.

IMPORTANT FACEBOOK UPDATE

Facebook is no longer allowing business pages to share clickable links in posts and comments.

This means I will no longer be able to put a clickable link in the comments for you to access my free patterns, tutorials, courses and other resources.

So from now on, if I ask you to COMMENT A WORD, this is the only way you will have access to it.
This allows me to send the link directly to you in Messenger instead, so you can still access what I’m sharing.

Commenting the word is (for now) the only way I can get the link to you and I don't want you to miss out on my resources and content.

P.S. Links are still visible and available in The Felt Hub Group It's completely free to join , plus you have access to the free guides, patterns, and files in there.

Looking for an autumn needle felting project? In this full step-by-step tutorial I'll show you how to make a realistic penny bun mushroom from wool in around an hour. I'll show you how to build the entire mushroom around a simple barbecue skewer, creating a sturdy stalk and perfectly rounded cap before adding a smooth carded wool finish and subtle natural textures using a reverse felting needle.

This is a brilliant project for autumn makes and craft fairs. It looks far more complicated than it really is and is a fantastic way to practise shaping, surface finishing and creating realistic detail.

In this video

🍄 Building the entire mushroom around a barbecue skewer

🍄 Creating a sturdy stalk with very little bulk

🍄 Shaping a realistic penny bun cap

🍄 Covering the mushroom with carded wool for a smooth finish

🍄 Using a fine needle to minimise visible needle marks

🍄 Adding natural colour variation

🍄 Creating realistic texture with a reverse felting needle

🍄 Tips for keeping your mushroom balanced so it stands on its own

Materials you will need:

✓ Wool tops or carded wool
✓ Carded wool for the surface finish
✓ 38 gauge needle (or 36 for shaping)
✓ 40 gauge needle for finishing
✓ Reverse 40 felting needle
✓ Barbecue skewer
✓ Small scissors
