Just heard one of the most enchanting sounds of spring, the Chiffchaff, so I thought I would share this poem with you, again!!

Bluebells and Chiffchaffs
(Signs of Spring)

Snowdrops sleep a deserving rest from yet another winters test
But hold their slumber such time until, they usher in the Daffodil.

Golden nods and yellow sways shows a sign of longer days
Lending canvas to this gilded glow - a pure white blossom of Blackthorn sloe.

Amidst ripe buds of Sallow trees the air is given to the hum of Bees
Returning with sweet nectar's glean, they offer to, and feed the Queen.

A cheery face, a waxy shine, gives away the Celandine
Hide and seek with Daisy plays, soaking up Sun’s warming rays.

Primrose, Anemone quietly merge as Cowslip shoal upon grassy verge
They never giggle or dare to mock, while admiring the Ladies smock.

Dells with carpets, pristine and blue, unspoiled by foot, soft slipper or shoe
All those bells and not one sound, but hark, a Chiffchaff, a home he’s found.

Driving home from Tewkesbury prompted me to write this.

SABRINA'S WRATH

The sky, she seemed, had cried all night and left the morn forlorn
Her tears they fell without a care upon the earth to scorn
Turning placid brook to raging stream, thus Sabrina's wrath was born.

Her relentless force to seaward, left a wake of sorrow and grief
No escape for a town or city nor a rich man or a thief
Alas, man's attempt of barriers afforded no relief.

Her fury strikes fair meadow lands chasing beasts to higher ground
Devouring hedge and withy bough flooding byways all around
Her restless soul takes short respite for soon she's homeward bound.

Her journey ends so quietly with the help from moon and tide
Angst and rage subsided now and anger put aside
She will travel to the peaceful depths and there she will reside.

The sky, she seems, will cry again and leave the morn forlorn
Her tears will fall, without a care, upon the earth to scorn
Placid brook to raging stream, thus Sabrina's wrath reborn.

This is to accompany my last post to explain the inspiration for the piece, I hope it is worth a share.

UNGRU MANOR
(A sad tale)

Ungru Manor is situated near Kiltsi, south west of Haapsalu in Estonia. It was founded in 1523 on its separation from Kiltsi Manor estate. Ungru manor was gifted to Otto von Ungern-Sternberg in 1629 by its owner king Gustav II Adolf of Sweden. The first manor house was built c.1630, apparently within one of the most beautiful parks in the whole of Estonia. Fast forward to the 19th century when, after the death of the then owner, Magnus de la Gardie, Evald Ungern Sternberg bought the manor.

The story goes, that Evald's son, Count Ewald Adam Gustav Paul Constantin von Ungern-Sternberg, fell in love with a princess, daughter to the Lord of Merseburg castle in Germany.
Ewald proposed to the young Lady but she said she was so fond of her father's castle that she would stay there for the rest of her life. Because he was so in love the Count promised he would build an exact copy of the castle for her. The princess accepted his proposal and promised to marry him as soon as the replica castle was built. One can imagine the excitement of the Count as he rushed home to make preparations for the gift to his beloved Lady.
In 1893 the work started on the building of Ungru manor. Within three years the main construction/roof was finished and the interior almost completed when devastating news arrived that the princess had passed away. On hearing this news the grieving Count most likely ordered the work on the house to cease and he never returned until after his own death in 1908 when, according to his wishes, spent his one and only night at the Manor in his coffin on the way to be buried at his family burial place in Hiiumaa.

Ungru Manor now stands as a protected ruin portraying a testament to grand architecture and a tragic love story.

Some words and facts are taken from the information board that stands on the site of Ungru Manor.
