This is a selection of some more of the excellent pieces of artwork that Bro John Currie Snr completed whilst he was actively producing various standards for Lodge’s, Club’s & the Provincial Grand Black Chapter of Scotland while he worked under his ‘Billy’s Art’ moniker here in Scotland!👍
I remember Bro Currie, who is my father; painting some of the artwork shown on the wall of me & my big brothers bedroom prior to June 1998 when we lived in a smaller 3-Bedroom, 2-Story house as he did not have the required additional space to dedicate to his amazing hobby!🫣
It was at the end of June 1998 that we moved from house number 71, across the square in the same street to a 3-Story, 4-Bedroom town house at house number 47 which was a fair bit larger and included a dining room and an exterior ‘Utility Room’ accessed from the porch that immediately became the new, dedicated Billy’s Art Studio when all subsequent standards and artwork were to be designed and completed!🤓… It was not the biggest of spaces but was sufficient for what my dad required to mount the fabric to the wall while the artwork was done on it, it had room to include cabinetry, drawers & shelving to store all of his art supplies and paints etc… as well as a small couch for those visiting to place or collect their commissions and allowing the display of the collection of Loyalist memorabilia that he collected over the years?🤩
Many of those Brothers, Sisters, Band Members etc… that had the pleasure of visiting our home and sitting with John to discuss the placing of newly commissioned standards commented on how amazing they found the setup and the size of the memorabilia collection which included many old & limited run medals and a number of very unique items that many didn’t know had existed before they seen my dads… All of which we still have, including the original Drumcree medals with the version that included a spelling mistake being amongst the huge collection of medals dad has accumulated over the years!👌
We realise that many of the standards shown in this new post have been posted previously, however they are not necessarily the exact same picture from the same parade etc… The plan is and will remain to be, to upload any and all pictures of standards produced by “Billy’s Art” although we do attempt to w**d out any direct duplicates? We would be very grateful if you could send us any pictures you may have of any of Bro John Currie’s work that you may have with all pictures to be put on the page as long as they have not been previously uploaded!?💙
