The Scotland Malayalee Association (SMA), based in Glasgow, is one of the pioneer and oldest Malayalee associations in Scotland, established in 2010. As one of the pioneering associations of its kind in the region, SMA plays a significant role in preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Kerala, known as 'God's Own Country.'
The association is dedicated to fostering a strong sense of
community among Malayalees in Scotland. It achieves this through organizing various events, including family get-togethers, cultural celebrations, and sports activities. By celebrating traditional festivals and hosting cultural events, SMA helps to keep Kerala's vibrant traditions alive and ensures that younger generations connect with their heritage. SMA is formally registered with NORKA (Non-Resident Keralites Affairs) in Kerala and with authorities in Lanarkshire, Scotland, underscoring its commitment to maintaining a strong link between the Malayalee diaspora and their roots. SMA is also a member and coordinator of the Scotland region of the UUKMA (Union of UK Malayalee Associations), which serves as the umbrella organization for Malayalee associations throughout the UK.
