Take Me Somewhere Take Me Somewhere, a festival of contemporary international performance in Glasgow The festival has been led by Artistic Director LJ Findlay-Walsh since 2018.

Take Me Somewhere is Glasgow’s festival of contemporary international performance, building on the legacy of the Arches arts venue following its closure in 2015. The festival provides a crucial support structure and platform for Scotland’s most vital artists, combined with some of the world’s most cutting-edge contemporary performance makers. Take Me Somewhere’s presence pulsates across the city with inspirational work igniting the city’s main stages, arts venues, churches, nightclubs and gardens. The festival - which has innovative performance at its core - acts as a connector between people, work and ideas, and is inspired by the talent, energy and voracity of the city’s arts community. It’s a space for crucial, diverse voices from here and abroad that take us somewhere in our personal and collective journeys, understanding the globalised and multicultural world we live in; voices that allow us to consider where we are now and envisage what a future somewhere could be. Take Me Somewhere was founded in 2017 by Jackie Wylie, now Artistic Director of the National Theatre of Scotland. Jackie Wylie and LJ Findlay-Walsh led the artistic programming at the Arches from 2008 to 2015.

Intimate encounters and immersive experiences so far...

✨ Cultural Exchange Rate immersed us in the personal and the political on an interactive journey through family histories and hidden currencies.

✨ Handle with Care asked us to make our own show, which unfolded from a box crafted and delivered by Ontroerend Goed.

✨We were delighted to see so many promises from the public in Paul Ramírez Jonas’ Public Trust. From pledging to fight for happiness to promising to give your dogs more hugs.

More to encounter, to confront and to explore this coming week.

We've only just recovered from last week (but we're ready to do it all again!)

We toasted mezcal at noon, we got wet and wild, we sat at church pews and long dinner tables. Take Me Somewhere week one was an eruption of collective joy and defiance. Here’s some snaps:

✨ Requiem para un Alcaraván by Lukas Avendaño was a whirl of colour, joy and transformation.

✨We got soaked by a folk myth come to life (with extra glitter) at Selkie: The Wet and Wild Show by Craig Manson.

✨Susanne Kirnbauer-Bundy and Doris Uhlich danced an intergenerational duet of change and rearrangement against the myth that there’s no place on stage for the aging body.

✨In Bardaje, Lukas Avendaño transformed St Ninian’s church’s gothic architecture into a cascade of rhythmic sound and colourful feathers.

✨The Last Supper by MEXA was the perfect finale: a joyful feast of resistance, solidarity and so much cake 🍰

Ready for round two? We have so much more to explore this week. Head to our website to explore.

What a week it’s been at Take Me Somewhere so far!

Here are some snaps from the shows:

✨ The Mongrel by Shawn Nayar drew us into a world of deep red fog and the scent of jasmine.

✨ Jo Hauge’s self insert outside fan spiral (on ice) took us on a magical trip across the ice rink.

✨ EXXY by Dan Daw was a huge, heart-pounding work, taking us back to Dan Daw’s childhood in the outback, and earning a rightful standing ovation.

We’re so excited for tonight (tickets still available for Bardaje!) and this weekend brings more radical performance across the city, follow the link in our bio for details + tickets!

Take Me Somewhere are thrilled to be joining the portfolio of Creative Scotland Multi-Year Funded organisations; securing funding from April 2025 - April 2028. This funding will allow us more stability to serve artists and audiences and aid the delivery of our mission; creating the conditions to ensure Scotland is the place to create and experience radical performance practice.

We are excited to see many incredible artist-led & inspiring organisations join the portfolio, we’re also thinking about our friends and colleagues who were unsuccessful in their bids.

This essential support will allow us to deliver our international performance Festival in October 2025 & October 2027, alongside our Studio Somewhere artist development programme in 2026. It will allow us to continue our work with artists in a deeper, more embedded way, reach new audiences & champion marginalised and underrepresented voices on Scotland’s stages.

Take Me Somewhere was founded from the closure of Glasgow’s beloved Arches venue in 2016, which housed a vibrant community of makers. Radical performance returning to Creative Scotland’s regular funding portfolio is the result of 7 years of hard work & support from our endlessly talented community of artists, our generous national & international colleagues & everyone who’s come to experience what this field can offer.

We are excited to work with Creative Scotland and all our funders and partners in this next chapter both for Take Me Somewhere and for wider Scottish arts. We look forward to you joining us somewhere in the years to come.
