POOL POOL (Peer Organisation for Open Learning) is an alternative arts and cultural education programme based in Glasgow.

The Peer Organisation for Open Learning – P.O.O.L. – was founded by a group of Glasgow based artists and cultural practitioners who graduated from GSA. It is a pilot alternative creative education programme, initiated in response to the limitations they encountered in institutional creative further education. It will be structured as a peer-led, studio based course, run part time over the duration

of 6 months to a year. The project takes inspiration from contemporary and historic models for alternative education and combines elements of these working structures to suit Glasgow and its history of DIY activity. We aim to form a group of driven artists spanning a range of practices, from different education and cultural backgrounds, who will critically engage with learning outside the institutional framework of a traditional post graduate course. This will be rethinking education radically from the roots up. At the heart of our activities is a politics which values sharing and which celebrates both ‘amateur’ and practiced skill, which has time for joy, and redistributes power through non-hierarchical group work, and involved critical conversation. The programme will utilise the existing networks and resources within Glasgow’s creative and educational communities to support learning as a peer group. It will share the tools and knowledge it gathers with the wider public. It will be unaccredited and autonomous, but will seek to work collaboratively across arts and community groups.

Around the same time as Bobby Paul Sayers artist self employment and benefits workshop at our residency, Evening Class in London were holding an Antiuniversity Now event // Dependent on experience. Here is the PDF reader they produced for the event around the idea of WORK and what it often means in creative capacities. Nice work guys.

Some members of POOL just went self employed, and couldn't attend their own workshop due to WORK and so we will be organising another peer-to-peer tax session in the coming months so we can work out how to be grown up, and maximise our minimum incomes into some kind of team affluence-ey. It will be in August or September.
