Hailed as "Glasgow's King Of Disco" by internationally renowned dj duo Optimo thanks to his genre bending, no boundaries approach to dj'ing - a scene that has gone global in recent years with the success & interest in more eclectic performers such DJ Harvey, Moodymann, Theo Parrish, Lindstrom, Prins Thomas etc & events such as HorseMeat Disco - and having performed alongside all but few of the dj'ing greats that are still with us – luminaries that include François K, Daniele Baldelli, Nicky Siano, Danny Krivit & Joe Claussell – Billy's focus in recent years has been in developing his own party – Supermax (the name inspired by Kurt Hauenstein's legendary 'Supermax' band who's music Billy has pioneered over many years) alongside partner Lisa Ringrose who’s management over all aspects of the party has been so instrumental to its success. Bucking the trend of the corporate dance music media driven guest dj circuit Supermax is built around the firm conviction that the best clubs & parties are based around resident dj’s - eg. David Mancuso's Loft, Larry Levan's Paradise Garage, Ron Hardy's Music Box, Frankie Knuckles Warehouse, Baldelli & Mozart's Cosmic Club, Junior Vasquez's Sound Factory, Paul Trouble Anderson's Loft etc. High quality audio reproduction is fundamental to any great party and this is absolutely the case with Supermax. Drawing inspiration from the incredible RLA sound systems of New York’s disco & post disco era, the Supermax sound system, acoustic treatment & sound management - is courtesy of legendary local sound system designer and long-term collaborator Rory Watson of We Enjoy Sound. We Enjoy Sound have provided sound systems at every Supermax event that has taken place over the past 14 yrs and so convinced are Billy & Lisa of the quality of their work they have bypassed systems at internationally renowned venues in favour utilising We Enjoy for sound support. Likewise, so impressed was the owner of the Berkeley Suite with the audio provided by We Enjoy Sound at Supermax events that they bought the system. We Enjoy Sound have been developing & improving sound reproduction for Supermax and at The Berkeley Suite in a variety of ways. This has included acoustic treatment, new Jabo horn tops in time for the Supermax 10th Birthday & more recently super exotic new Volt loudspeaker driven mid-range. When Andrew Weatherall re-started his ALFOS nights at the Berkeley Suite a few years back he commented that he thought the system was the 2nd best he’d ever played on …and this with the house Pioneer mixer in place! The front end of the Supermax set up is the 'one of a kind' custom 19 inch Isonoe rotary mixer. Billy is a pioneer in the use of rotary mixers due to their superior sound reproduction having been the 1st dj in the country to utilise specially imported ‘original’ Bozak mixers at his Outer Drive parties (including a rare early D model Bozak that was originally installed at Legendary 70’s Fire Island discotheque ‘The Ice Palace’) since 2003, before upgrading to a one-off custom ‘Isonoe’ 19 inch rackmount mixer in 2016, again the 1st dj in the country to utilise such a mixer. Venues & events such as Spiritland, Public Records, Brilliant Corners, Beauty & the Beat etc have all followed suit. At 14 years & counting Supermax is possibly the longest running genuine resident only continuous monthly underground dance party anywhere in the world today and a throwback to an era where dj's would take control of the music selection, environment & experience across the entirety of the night, all the while developing a sense of community, mutual experience, continuity & rapport with the dancer. Supermax is where you will encounter a soundtrack & experience that will expand your mind and open your eyes & ears to the possibilities.
