" In the cramped blood-red basement, to the sounds of hard rock, a plump girl in a corset strolled around with black duct tape criss-crossing her ni***es like the treasure maps of yore. A performer called Midnight Monroe removed her widow's veil and swigged from a bottle of wine to which she had glued a plastic severed hand; at the conclusion of her act, she walked off stage and into the audience, returning to her seat and putting on a cardigan."
