Glasgow Symphony Orchestra

Glasgow Symphony Orchestra Glasgow Symphony Orchestra is an amateur orchestra established in 1975. Our members range in age from 18 to over 80!

We rehearse on a Tuesday evening in the West End and perform three times a year in venues across Glasgow, often joined by soloists. Our repertoire is mostly, but not exclusively, classical, and we perform music by both major composers and those less-well-known. Glasgow Symphony Orchestra is a Scottish Registered Charity No. SC052506 regulated by the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).

The cello section doing their best to stay sensible while accompanying Berlioz’s extremely public emotional crisis 😅

How much longer can we get away with using the Berlioz music in these posts before it starts getting ridiculous? 🙈

A few photos of our temporarily expanded bassoon section performing Symphonie fantastique at our concert earlier this month. Four amazing bassoonists together for one gloriously Berliozian occasion — and I’m sure everyone will agree they sounded absolutely magnificent! 🤩

What a brilliant concert we had last week with our special guests Glasgow Phoenix Choir who helped us to celebrate Andy's final concert with us. We hope he enjoyed his celebrations! Here are a few photos of our wonderful conductor of the past ten years enjoying some final moments with us and getting a well deserved bottle of whisky! Thank you for all of your hard work Andy, we wish you all the best for your retirement! Much love xx

A sneak peek at last Tuesday's rehearsal, as we prepare for our dress rehearsal and concert this coming week! With whirling winds and the sinister swirl of the lower strings, there's plenty to look forward to!

If you have not already purchased your tickets for our special concert this Wednesday, 3rd June at Sherbrooke Mosspark Parish Church, then now is the time to do so!

We will be joined by Glasgow Phoenix Choir as we bid farewell to our conductor of the past decade, Andy Morris, as he retires.

Our wonderful concert will be followed by a short celebration. If what you've heard so far isn't enough to get you speedily purchasing those tickets, then perhaps cake, nibbles and drinks afterwards will do the trick! ☺️

Go on, you know you want to 😝

Meanwhile, the brass and percussion sections are busy amusing themselves until their big moments - deeply engrossed in crosswords, scores, and profound ponderings!

If you'd like to come along and see us in action, tickets can be purchased using the link below. Join us for some nibbles and drinks afterwards 🤩
