Hello all! Citizen of Nothing is back on www.subcity.live from 3pm-5pm this afternoon! This is a show that combines two of the greatest loves of my life - tunes and maps.

I saw a map doing the rounds on Twitter this week which showed the bestselling musicians from each county in England. There was, of course, a huge excess of naff stuff, so I've decided to do a far cooler revised version for your listening pleasure today.

So all aboard the Citizen of Nothing tourbus as we set off on the road trip from hell. The podcast will be up on Sunday, so if you can't listen live, I'll let you all know when it gets uploaded on Mixcloud!

Lots of love,

J

Hello all! I hope everyone's doing great. If you're interested in listening to some autumnal tunes this arvo, then I'm back on the radio today! There's all the usual features like Tenement Song, Aphex Twin's Lunchbox and Diggin' In The Crates, as well as tunes from the likes of Shirley Collins, Kate Bush, Mitski and an absolute post-punk masterpiece from... Sir Tom Jones !!!

The show's on a little earlier than usual today - from 1-3pm - and you can tune in www.subcity.live. Our normal website is still down for the moment, so the podcast won't be up until it's fixed. So tune in live if you can! Big love x

Hello lovely friends! It's been a hectic couple of weeks up here in bonnie Glesga, so I totally spaced on promoting the most recent episode of Citizen of Nothing, but never fear, the podcast is here.

Episode 10 is all about slowing down, so I've made a mix of some of my favourite ambient, house, slowcore and electronica which hopefully has a nice sedating effect. There's shouts for Jon Hassell and Peter Rehberg who recently passed, as well as tunes from the likes of Little Dragon, KMRU and *of course* Aphex Twin.

Afternoon all! Citizen of Nothing is back on www.subcity.org from 3pm-5pm after a month away. Lockdown is lifting, summer is upon us, and football fever is sweeping the nation. That’s right, it’s time for the European Championships. Right this second countless inflatable footballs are being booted high in the air, plastic cups full of warm beer are being gleefully thrown around and it’s taps aff time all across the continent.

Join us this afternoon on Citizen of Nothing as we hold our very own Alternative Euro 2021 - your noisy accompaniment (or antidote) to the feast of football happening right now. 6 groups, 24 nations: From France to Finland; from the Netherlands to North Macedonia, we’ve got you covered with some of the best up-and-coming underground artists from around the continent. There’s tunes from the likes of Lykke Li, Shygirl and SOPHIE, with lots of football-related silliness too.

(Disclaimer: It could well be coming home)

Hey up folks, it's radio day again on www.subcity.org! This week's show is all about the idea of returning home after a long time away.

This week's show is a soundtrack for all the conflicting emotions of a homeward bound journey: the reunions with old friends, the appreciation of the landscape, and the changes that the passage of time imparts on the idea of home that exist in your memory.

Tunes from the likes of Talking Heads, Gang of Four, Patti Smith, FKA Twigs, the Fall and LCD Soundsystem, as well as a wee review of the new BBC documentary about Glasgow's finest ever punk band, the Amazing Snakeheads.

As always, if you can't make it you'll be able to catch up anytime on www.subcity.org/shows/citizenofnothing, where the podcast will be streamable at some point later this evening.

Hello all! Remember John Keats? That poet lad who was always going on about birds? Well, he once said “Where are the songs of spring? Ay, where are they?”

I told him, “John, mate, they’re over on www.subcity.org from 3pm-5pm on Wednesday the 5th of May, on Citizen of Nothing. Y’know, that really ace post-punk, ambient and electronica show? Yeah, right there. You can catch up anytime at www.subcity.org/shows/citizenofnothing too. I know mate, wicked.”

He was on it, and he’s been dead for 200 years, so you best lock in too.

We’ve got tunes from the likes of X-Ray Spex, Talk Talk and the Sugarcubes, a review of Lisa Rovner’s new documentary ‘Sisters With Transistors’ and all the usual suspects like Aphex Twin’s Lunchbox, Diggin' in the Crates and Tenement Song as we herald in the springtime.

Hope to see you there folks!

Hey up folks, it's radio day again and today's show is a good one!

Join us this week on Citizen of Nothing for some unadulterated evangelism as we gather at the church of Nick Cave at 3pm sharp. We'll be celebrating the long, leftfield career of one of rock and roll's finest lyricists by playing some of his best music. There'll be some appearances made by some of Nick's most famous friends, accomplices and partners in crime, so expect to hear bangers from the likes of Nina Simone, PJ Harvey, and (of course) Kylie Minogue.

Seamlessly moving from crooning piano ballads like ‘Into My Arms’ to twisted murderous rampages like ‘Stagger Lee’, Nick Cave can make you cry and headbang with furious, wailing abandon, all in the blink of an eye. And if you don't know the work of the Bad Seeds too well, then come on in and join the cult @ www.subcity.org, there's always plenty of room!!!

As always, if you can't make it, the podcast will be streamable at some point later this afternoon, and you can catch that on www.subcity.org/shows/citizenofnothing.

Hello all! It's radio day today! The second episode of Citizen of Nothing will be broadcasting live on www.subcity.org from 3-5pm, but if you can't make it then the podcast should be available later today on www.subcity.org/shows/citizenofnothing

This week’s show is all about long songs. We’re talking post-punk pilgrimages, auditory odysseys and towering musical monoliths - long tunes that take us on a journey. All our tunes on this here show will be over 6 minutes long, spanning genres like dub, krautrock and even a bit of experimental bluegrass if you’re lucky!

We've got music from the likes of The Horrors, The Stooges, Amadou & Mariam, The Knife and John Fahey, and an insight into holidaying in Leicester.

Big love and hope to see you there,

J
