Let’s meet our resident potter Gwynneth Rixon!

Gwynneth said of herself: ‘I have been captured by clay for the past sixty years, have been privileged to meet and enjoy "talking shop " and philosophy with other potters from all over the world.’

‘I like my bowls to have feet to give them "lift" ..the foot profiles are inspired by architraves and cut so that they are stable even on an uneven surface.
I like decoration generally to be subtle but fun.....and the art I make to be useful and enjoyable.’

Let’s talk about our own Caroline Dempsey, Artist…

Caroline is a very talented land and seascapes artist, often capturing animals and beyond too! Her absolute speciality (in our opinion) is her beautiful paintings of waves, rocks and the local celebrity, Ailsa Craig. Her style is easily recognisable and highly sought ❤️

Caroline also runs painting workshops titled Everyone CAN Paint and her next one is in the stone barn here at Culzean on the 27th of June! There are still some places left so if you are interested please head to her page for more details.

Ben Wynn of Ben Wynn Creations is a contemporary metal sculptor creating high-end, handcrafted works from recycled metal and reclaimed machinery. Specialising in wildlife-inspired pieces—particularly sea life and birds—his sculptures explore the striking contrast between the natural world and industrial materials. By transforming hard, cold metal into forms that feel fluid, soft, and alive, Ben brings a unique sense of movement and elegance to each piece. Barbara Anderson is our next member up for our ‘meet the artist’ feature!

Barbara is a landscape and wildlife artists working in both acrylic and soft pastel. Barbara manages to capture so much character in her animal subjects, with her titles often adding a sense of the whimsical. Her landscapes often have a dynamic feel due to her fantastic ability to capture dramatic skies and light conditions.

Come in to the Smiddy, any day except Tuesdays, (11-4:30) to have a look at Barbara’s work for yourselves.
