2026. Two pots in none out. I’m going to be hugely patient this year and push on with wood pit firing as the results, should they survive, I want to add to my portfolio. Hope you agree.

My special little place. I have loved meeting so many artists over the decades were their work is born is such rustic surroundings. The work - nothing else matters.

First bowl in a long while. Thin walled to increase elegance and intentionally pushed around at the leather drying stage for increased character. I’m really happy with this one.

Moss 14 x 20cm
A more traditional Japanese fired piece. Mainly a single glaze with much exposed naked clay. Taken from the kiln at around 900c and immediately covered in sawdust. It has created heavy blacks while the thin coat glaze has produced greens with metallic highlights of careful placement of second or third coating.

Rust 16 x 20 cm

Really enjoyed pushing way outside the norm with this one. I fired it unglazed and then carefully poured watered down raku glaze from 900c down to 400c along with larger lengths of saw dust cut along the grain. A very well ventilated area and a high quality chemical mask to keep it safe. It was extremely glaze hungry but I think it was worth the extra expense.

Burnt Copper 16 x 13 cm

A nice reaction to Cherry sawdust reduction. I allowed some of the copper to oxidise green before covering different areas with the sawdust and removing all oxygen to create oranges, reds and blacks.

The raku god smiled down on me yesterday. Attempt two at this piece and it really did come true this time.
