We're excited to introduce a new tutor, and exciting new series of workshops, to Creative Courses.

Nick Stewart has spent much of his working life at some of London’s top creative agencies and design studios as a designer, visualiser and lettering specialist. He has also spent the last ten years or so working with ink, re-imagining fountain pen inks as a creative medium.

Join us for the first in a series of workshops, where you will begin to explore the diversity of fountain pen ink colours, sheens and shimmers, their unique make up, and reactions with water and bleach. The techniques shown will allow students to work both ‘dark into light’ and ‘light into dark’ and across a diverse range of disciplines including: watercolour painting, illustration, hand lettering, calligraphy and fine art.

Spaces strictly limited to 8; prompt booking recommended

The first two of these workshops we listed sold out very quickly, so we're happy to be adding a third date. Don't hesitate if you want a space! Limited to 8 people.

What is etching?

Drypoint is an intaglio (INTO the surface) type of . The image is scratched into an acrylic plate using a sharp needle, ink is pushed into these grooves, and the plate is printed using a press. Unlike traditional etching, there’s no acid or harsh chemicals involved.

The resulting prints are expressive, sketch like, and atmospheric. Colour can be added using different inks, with watercolour washes, or chine collé, where thin decorative papers are pushed into the paper as part of the printing process.

Interested? We've got a full day workshop exploring drypoint and chine-collé coming up on Sunday 31st May. Suitable for all levels of experience.

10am - 4pm, £80, all materials included
