If you know me, you won’t be surprised that this painting was inspired by another family stroll-this time along the Thames in Richmond.
It was late October and the path was covered in autumn leaf confetti. We came across this lonely bench overlooking the river, framed my these incredible heavy branches of golden leaves. The light hitting these yellow and orange tones was almost shimmering.
I knew that I want to capture this glow and memory of this perfectly balmy afternoon 🍂
I decided to use my favourite tool-a palette knife to add the final impasto details. Im not sure it this is visible on the photos here-I’m still learning how to photograph my oil paintings.
This is also one of the paintings that I’m taking to my first exhibition at
The exhibition starts this Monday (30th March) and will last for two weeks until 12th April.
The entry is completely FREE.

It all began on one frosty morning. I went out as the sun was shining, and I was hoping to photograph a kingfisher in my local nature reserve. This wasn’t the day for a kingfisher, but I took several photos by the river as all the colours came alive in the rising sun.

It’s another example of how I used one of my older sketches to transfer it to the final oil painting.
Needless to say, it was challenging. The scene is quite complex, and I initially straggled to picture the depth and the hazy trees in the background. I almost gave up on this one, thinking I’d chosen a scene that is too difficult for my skills.

I persevered (I can be quite stubborn), and now I am quite pleased with it. In fact, it’s my favourite from the lot I’m taking to my first group exhibition next week.
Do you even have this feeling that things just don’t work and you want to give up? How do you push through the “ugly” stage?

The proof is in the pudding, I mean in the kingfisher 🤣 Here is how painting the same subject over and over (yes, I’m kingfisher obsessed) helped me improve!🐦
My latest oil painting is titled “The Long Awaited” and it’s one of the pieces I’ll be taking to my first group exhibition at . Last year I joined my local and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made recently. Being able to attend art demos and workshops is lovely, but the best part is to be able to chat about art to people who are as obsessed as me! There are so many talented members in this group and we all use different styles and mediums. This exhibition will be packed full of wonderful art so come and see it - it’s FREE!

And if you wish to paint a watercolour with me, comment “KINGFISHER” and I will send you a link to a FREE PDF with an outline, list of materials and step-by-step instructions plus a link to a video.

Sometimes, the most precious memories don’t exist in a single photograph. When my friend lost her beloved Missy recently, she only had a few photos—none of which quite captured her in the perfect pose for a portrait.

Using a bit of „artistic detective work,” I studied Missy’s unique features and combined them with a reference pose to bring her back to life on paper. It was an honor to create this lasting memory for a friend.

UPDATE: I have couple spaces available for watercolor commissions in April. If you have a special pet (or a „Missy” of your own) you’d like captured, please DM me to discuss a booking.

There is always that special moment when a commission leaves the studio. A final, quiet send-off to the pet I’ve spent so many hours carefully studying while painting their portrait. This one was hand-delivered just yesterday. 🐾

After the intensity of posting every single day in January, my February was all about quiet reflection and spending time with family and friends as I celebrated my 50th birthday. (I still can’t quite believe that number!)

I’ve been thinking a lot this past month about „artistic courage”—allowing myself the space to paint from my heart. It’s about finding the courage to share my work with the world without those old feelings of guilt or shame creeping in. I think that is exactly where I want my focus to be this year.
More heart, more courage, and more honest art. ✨
Do you ever feel that same resistance when sharing your own passions?
