Meet the Poets!

Today, we’re shining a spotlight on three incredible
artists — Poet: Ruth Padel, Sitar Player: Vijay Jagtap &
Poet: Maggie Harris

Before they take to the stage on Sunday 1st March for
'We All Come from Somewhere Else' an afternoon of
poetry & Music, find out more about the people behind
the performance.

Part 1 - Ruth Padel

Ruth Padel is a Fellow of the Royal Society of
Literature and Zoological Society of London, and
Professor of Poetry Emerita at King’s College London.

She has published over twenty books, including
thirteen poetry collections, and is trying to finish a
non-fiction book on elephants.

Her book on migration, We Are All from Somewhere
Else, addresses migration from cells to souls, through
birds, whales, zebras and people historically and also
today.

Enfield Poet’s Literary Festival – Workshops - Saturday 26th September

DISCOVER YOUR STORY - Through a series of creative exercises, prompts and playful activities, you'll explore moments from your life and discover how everyday experiences can be shaped into compelling narratives.

FROM PAGE TO PERFORMANCE - Have you thought about the way you perform your poetry? We will discuss things like posture, voice projection, eye contact, pausing and pace to create the very best performance. Led by Ros Kane.

JOY, DESPAIR AND ATTENTION - In this workshop we will explore how we might approach the difficult and urgent subjects of climate change and environmental disaster within our writing. Led by Hannah Copley

CHANGING PERSPECTIVES: A MENTAL HEALTH WORKSHOP - Join poet and spoken word artist Courtney for a welcoming creative writing workshop exploring mental health, self reflection, and personal growth. Gain new perspectives through the power of words.

POETREE: ENFIELD - We will collect stories from participants which will be woven together to create a portrait of Enfield that will act as a time capsule of the workshop. led by Jacky Flower

If your looking for something a little bit different, we have crafting workshops, open mic, an audio walk, a children’s workshop and even a workshop you can do with your dog!

DOGGY DOGGEREL WORKSHOP - Poet, Damaris Silvester invites you to create a poem about your canine chum(s). Well behaved dogs on leads can accompany their human for this workshop.

QUILL PEN EXPERIENCE - Try your hand at this ancient writing technique. Paper, ink quills and lots of encouragement to write provided. Suitable for beginners. Led by Damaris Silvester

BOOK MAKING FOR BEGINNERS - Make a unique notebook to hold your thoughts, images, inspiration and poetry. Using a combination of collage, paper folding and stitching techniques, create a personalised book to take home. Run by Zoe, of Zinfinity

HUMAN RIGHTS HEROES: CHILDREN’S WORKSHOP – Interactive readings, conversations, games and art – introducing young people to the stories of Human Rights Heroes such as Nelson Mandela, Harriet Tubman & Eleanor Roosevelt. Finally, decorate your own superhero mask to take home! Age 6+

ECHOES AUDIO WALK – Walk from one audio spot to another listening to poems from the ‘Shades of Forty Hall‘ collection, which have been recorded by their authors. Led by Anthony Fisher.

VOICES RAISED IN POETRY: OPEN MIC - An open and inclusive Poetry Open Mic hosted by Mary T Duggan. This is your chance to step up to the microphone, share your own writing, or simply enjoy listening to the rich variety of voices from our community.

SO SWEET AND SO COLD - Explore the poetic palette with our fabulous headliner Patience Agbabi, and create poems inspired by memorable meals.

BRING YOUR POETRY TO LIFE - Cheryl Moskowitz will help poets develop skills in engaging an audience, vocal technique, and use of expression to best put across your work. Alastair Gavin will address the technical aspects of spoken word performance

THE VALUE OF POETRY IN MODERN TIMES – In this interactive poetry workshop, Adriana Polifrone will read her works, and then will open to audience questions, comments and musings.
