Say hello to the Black Marble Sword tail or Xiphophorus hellerii
Attractive and striking with the males featuring their distinctive “sword” tail (keep watching!) these Black Marble variety reflect light brilliantly and their dark colouration increases as they age. Stunning. Typically growing to around 6-10cms they are peaceful and social and best kept in groups with a ratio of 1 male to 2-3 females to keep things harmonious.

No need to panic, we don’t need a bigger boat! Silver Sharks Balantiocheilos melanopterus are not true sharks and belong to the carp and minnow family and for the record are not apex predators.

They are actually a very peaceful, timid shoaling species who are rather a skittish and easily startled. They should be kept in groups and housed in a suitable size aquarium as they grow to approx. 30cms and need lots of hiding spots so as not to startle them. They can also jump so a tight-fitting cover is essential.

Meet Svens Eartheater or Geophagus sveni

A vibrant, peaceful cichlid featuring metallic colours and beautiful long fins. Native to Brazil's Tocantins River basin they like nothing better than sift through substrate searching for food, hence the name.

If you were wondering where the "Sven" comes from this is from Swedish Biologist Sven Kullander who researches Cichlids, not a certain former England football manager.

Meet the Polypterus senegalus or Senegal Bichir, an unusual, lovely and endlessly interesting fish. With an elongated body and a magnificent row of dorsal finlets, they certainly are striking.

They have the ability to breathe oxygen so its essential to ensure they have space to surface. They appreciate dimly lit, sheltered nooks and crannies during the day and emerge at night to feed. A fascinating creature.
