The Coat Hangar

The Coat Hangar Welcome to The Coat Hangar FaceBook page. Founded by Anne & Jackie in October 2022. The Coat Hangar was set-up to help everyone to stay Warm4Winter.

After a trip to a local charity shop they noticed how expensive coats were to buy.

Anne & Jackie and new trustee Helen, are delighted to announce that we are now an OSCR registered charity - SC055766. Special thanks to Kate from tsiMORAY for guiding us through the process and to our families and volunteers for their support over the past four years. Being a SCIO will help us to continue providing FREE Warm4Winter garments for those in need. We will also endeavour to work closely with schools, other charities and support organisations

Last year Forres Health Centre hosted our YELLOW DONATION BINS in their Staff and Patient Area. In less than 6 months an amazing 187 garments were donated. We were so grateful and delighted that there will be 2 Yellow Bins this year. Thank you.

Over the past few years many businesses and organisations hosted our YELLOW DONATION BINS. If you think your staff or customers could support The Coat Hangar we can provide a bin for a month or 2 months or even 6 months. Please email [email protected] or contact us on FB or Messenger. Thanks for considering us.

We hope you've had a super summer but the days are getting shorter and we have unpredictable weather. The Coat Hangar volunteers are already sorting Warm4Winter coats and jackets to hang on a rail near you. We will provide further deatils soon on when these are ready. Over and above this our YELLOW DONATION BINS will be at various venues throughout Moray. We would be very grateful if you would check your wardrodes for good-as-new garmets you may wish to donate. We are particulary in need of GENT'S coats and jackets. Thank you in advance for supporting us.

We are asking for your help. Do you know of anywhere we could use for as premises for part of the year - somewhere accessable and visable in Elgin. We would love to make it easier for people to drop off donations and for our super volunteers to use as a base of operations. Please get in touch if you have any ideas. Thank you all😍.

The Coat Hangar Warm4Winter provides those in need with FREE coats or jackets for all ages. We are very fortunate to have had huge financial support from Moray Local Action Fund for 4 years. We have been able to expand and there are rails for individuals and families to help themselves throughout Moray. Over 1,750 items were taken from our rails from October to March and we had over 1,800 donations in the same period. Sincere thanks to everyone who has helped by donating, providing space for rails and yellow bins, fundraised and gave up their time to “make a difference in the Moray Community”👏👏

The Coat Hangar has finished for 2025-26 which means we will have to collect rails and yellow bins from our supporters’ venues. Thank you all for hosting these and we hope you will be able to do the same in 2026-27. A resume of number of FREE items taken from our rails will be available soon.

The Coat Hangar Warm4Winter campaign finishes at the end of March but until then we have plenty coats and jackets for all ages on rails throughout Moray. Locations of where you can find rails are in the pinned post above. If you are looking for a specific size or type send us details on Messenger or by email at [email protected] and we can arrange pickup or delivery.

We do have some thinner garments which will be useful on cool Spring days. If you have family members, friends, neighbours in need please shop on their behalf.

Lastly thank you to everyone who has donated so generously over the past 6 months. Without your support we could not have distributed FREE coats and jackets throughout Moray.
