Here is a transcript of the email in response to my email to Cllr Stuart Dobbin re the environmental clearing over the past few weeks.
Does this chime true for you especially the part about 'following considerable consultation'?

"Thank you for your email and I fully understand the concerns that you and others in the area have.

When I was alerted to the felling I visited to site to see for myself.
I will give you a fuller response in the next day or so, but in short:

The tree felling this week is part of the next phase of the overall regeneration plan – the clearing of the triangular area of land between Waterfront Avenue and the old shops at West Granton Road (to be demolished) is for the next phase of housing.

The Council & developers are required to ensure once the housing is complete, that there will be planting of native species.

The trees marked with white crosses are due to be removed as they were incorrectly planted too close together in the first instance - that species requires more room.

The plans for the redevelopment of Granton have, as I am sure you are aware, been published for some time now following considerable consultation. The plans require widespread planting.

I will give you a more detailed response shortly.
I have also told officers that their communication of events must improve significantly so that residents are not blindsided by events that we have seen this week.
I hope this gives you some reassurance and will follow up in the next day or two.

Best regards
Stuart Dobbin

SNP Councillor for FORTH"

Here is an annotated Google map of the habitat clearing going on in Granton at the moment. It shows the timeframe and projected timeframe of other planned development sites.
It may not be comprehensive in which case please get in touch with me and I will update it.

I am going around these sites frequently and will also try and keep up with the speed and scale of the nature destruction happening in our local vicinity.
Obviously much of it is under planning permission, but some of it may not be and I am trying to work out what is and what isn't allowed.
Here is a link to an annotated My Google Maps version:

The blue area which is a post-industrial Open Mosaic Habitat (OMH)to the North of the GasHolder is very rich in a variety of flora and fauna, includins the elisuve "Centuaria' flower, Coltsfoot, Common Spotted and Bee Orchids, Snowdrop, Silver Birch, Bramble, Goat Willow, ant hills and many more.

Open Mosaic Habitats are very significant for the biodiversity reasons explained here:
https://www.integratedlm.co.uk/articles/what-is-open-mosaic-habitats-omh-bng

They comprise some of the riches habitats we have left in Scotland.

1. Nesting sites for ground-nesting birds and insects

2. Foraging grounds for specialised species

3. Basking spots for reptiles and invertebrates

4. Refuge areas during different seasonal conditions

A day of destruction today along the cyclepath leading towards Waterfront Avenue. Not only were all the beech trees ripped out along the beech hedge, but now also the beech hedge itself.
It will all be gone by around 3pm today. RIP bird nesting sites, small mammal habitats and ground cover for countless species of earth dwelling creature. A sad day indeed.

The City of Edinburgh Council please let us know how this adheres to your One MIllion Tree City Programme, coupled with the destruction all over Granton (because this is just a tenth of the trees which have come down in the past few days here. )

The Meadowmaker seed Yellow Rattle is in! The cold winter months will vernalise the seeds, preparing their husks to break open for germination in March or so.

The seeds themselves will drill down roots and seek out nutrients not only from the soil, but also from the neighbouring grass roots. Yellow Rattle is hemi- parasitic, meaning that they weaken plants, especially grasses around them. Once the grasses have died back, other seeds can move in such as Yarrow, Cornflower, Poppy, Ox-Eye Daisy and if we're lucky, Viper's Bugloss.
And these in turn will provide nectar for our insect friends, who amongst other delightful things, pollinate a large proportion of our food.

Hugely excited to launch a new cook book in collaboration with Mosab Alarja .arja from Khan Younis, Gaza. πŸ‡΅πŸ‡Έ

This book shares traditional Palestinian recipes dictated over the phone by Mosab's mother, currently displaced in Southern Gaza.

It is a huge collaboration with multiple volunteers from all over the world, currently based in Edinburgh, including Japan, Sudan, UK, Syria, Switzerland/ India.

The profits from this book will do directly to a family in Southern Gaza and will help to feed 50 people during the ongoing siege in Palestine.

You can find it in the Palestine Museum in Scotland, Dundas Street, Edinburgh and Hadeel Palcrafts on George Street . More outlets coming soon.

πŸ‘οΈLook out for a potential online version soon too. πŸ‘οΈ

Many thanks to the Edinburgh Copy Shop for discounted but swift printing, Hadeels for sponsoring ingredients and The Palestine Museum in Scotland for granting copyright for the Tatreez embroidery shown throughout the booklet. And finally but most importantly to for facilities support throughout.

Soil pigment workshop: Measuring, sieving, grinding, grading, cracking, stirring, pouring, mixing, feeling, sensing, dipping, spreading, applying, painting, extending, evaluating and looking.
All good sensory, haptic experiences come from making your own paint.

Beats digital imaging any day! πŸ˜‚ .... at least for me πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸŽ¨πŸ–ŒοΈ love it- and must do more of it.
