This year at the 2026 EdSciFest, Artist Gayle Chong Kwan was commissioned to create an art piece in the Grand Gallery of the National Museum of Scotland that brought together contemporary sculpture and reflections of cultural legacy.

The art piece(s) that came to be was ‘The Great Instauration’, a piece that explored science as a culturally embedded process shaped by social history, power, and omission.

Fast forward 6 months later, for one night only, Gayle will share her story of The Great Instauration, exclusively at the 2026 Scottish International Storytelling Festival. She will share the storytelling at the heart of her practice and recent work, on a journey through research, art, collections and archives ✨

📍 Scottish International Storytelling Festival
📅 Thu 22 Oct | 2pm
🎫 Tickets at sisf.org.uk

And for a limited time until the end of October, a piece of the Great Instauration will be displayed at the Scottish Storytelling Centre for eyes to see!

In less than three weeks, Careers Hive takes over the Grand Gallery of the National Museums Scotland with Experience STEM 🔬

Experience STEM is an exhibition where young people get to see and try STEM rather than just hear about it. They can get hands-on, meet professionals working in various STEM industries and start to imagine how their own interests and skills could translate into future careers.

We would like to thank our incredible supporters for which Careers Hive would not be possible: Baillie Gifford, British Army, The City of Edinburgh Council, Edina Trust, Edinburgh Airport, Garfield Weston Foundation, Illumina, Inc., Red Rock Renewables, The Salter Centre, ScottishPower, STMicroelectronics NV, Wood Mackenzie

It’s almost that time of year where Careers Hive takes over the Grand Gallery of the National Museums Scotland 👀

The Grand Gallery STEM Exhibition is just one section of Careers Hive – we also offer students an interactive panel discussion in the Auditorium with Life After Leaving School!

Life After leaving School is designed to help young people understand that there isn’t just one pathway to a STEM career. The event features a panel of early-career STEM professionals from a range of industries, who share their own education and career journeys! They discuss their decisions, influences and different routes that led them to where they are today. Pupils will also have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss issues that matter to them.

By sharing real experiences and different pathways, Life After Leaving School helps students to see what’s possible and provides confidence in taking their own steps into a career in STEM 🌟

Careers Hive would not be what it is without the incredible support of Baillie Gifford, British Army, The City of Edinburgh Council, Edina Trust, Edinburgh Airport, Garfield Weston Foundation, Illumina, Inc., Red Rock Renewables, The Salter Centre, ScottishPower, STMicroelectronics NV, Wood Mackenzie.

Celebrating 20 years of partnership ⭐

This month, we were thrilled to receive a special award from Cirrus Logic recognising two decades of partnership with Edinburgh Science 🏆

Over the past 20 years, Cirrus Logic’s generosity, enthusiasm and hands-on support have helped us inspire more than 100,000 people across Scotland through programmes including Generation Science and the Edinburgh Science Festival.

Their commitment has gone far beyond funding, with colleagues volunteering their time, attending events and sharing our passion for making science accessible, engaging and inspiring.

We’re incredibly grateful for their friendship and belief in our mission, and we can’t wait to see what the next 20 years bring ✨
