Having just read the reimagining of Orwell's classic 1984, Julia, I'm disappointed and given the legal bullsh*ttery about who and why should write it I can only say they made a fu***ng arse out of it. Saying that - send it's my idea, here, now on Facetwat, I'm going to write the definitive Newspeak dictionary. Beginning with arseface. Oh joy, the limits are boundless you prole screentwats.

Massive thanks to everyone who's contributed in any way to the last 6 years of Blind Poetics. It's been such a fulfilling and somewhat humbling experience, echoed by last night's wonderful audience and their words, songs, and free drinks for Roddy and Alec.
There were rumblings of continuing with the annual Big Night of Spoken Word in August...
In the meantime, for all your Edinburgh-based spoken word open mic needs, Blind Poetics heartily recommends those scallywags at Inky Fingers who are now based at the Monkey Barrel. Check their media for details.
So. Maybe not a final goodbye. Maybe more of a see you later...

We've had 30+ requests for an open mic slot at the Big Farewell so here's what we're proposing:
1. Deadline for open mic requests is midnight on Sunday 15th. We won't be taking any more names after the deadline.
2. There won't be a reserve list. You're either on the list or you're not...
3. As there's a lot of names and limited time, the current proposal is that each open mic performs one piece only, with a caveat that it's not any longer than 3 minutes. That way everyone will get a chance at the mic, and we finish on time.
4. We'll be in touch with everyone via email by Monday 16th with final details.

We've been contacted by Joanna Mcdowall, a publishing student at Napier:

I'm a publishing student at Edinburgh Napier and as a project this semester I will be publishing a book. I would like to compile a collection of poetry focused on places/landscapes/atmospheres/bars etc in Scotland so am looking for any poets who would be interested in having their work published in such a collection.

Interested? You can contact her at:

We're going to end 2016 ('Year of S**t') on a good note...
We're definately planning a big party-thing/final Blind Poetics/open mic/fare ye well thing in January. There will be spoken word and an open mic at a venue in Edinburgh that sells alcohol. We've a few irons in the fire, we're watching a boiling kettle, we're counting chickens, and we're looking both ways before crossing the road...
Final details will be announced early in January.
Guid New Year from Alec and Roddy.

20/12/2016

We've decided that January's Blind Poetics will be the last. Circumstances and all that. We're aware that the venue - the Blind Poet - will be closing soon for refurbishment and we can't find another space at such short notice. Alex will be moving to Nirvana (ok, Paisley) at the end of January and Roddy's planning a move to London. Anyone wanting to pick up the baton give us a shout but as it stands...We'd like to thank everyone who's had any involvement over the last six years. It's been a brilliantly super duper time.

19/12/2016

The Blind Poetics quite sudden Christmas Party! We'll be in The Fountain (overpriced and w***y) from half eight tonight! Bring yourself along and wear a party hat! Buy us a drink and we'll dance! Cocktail sausages! Shin splints! Argh! Merry christmas...I've forgotten the rest...
