The school I work at has this gorgeous place called Centre for Imagination. Set at the foothills of Himalayas, it offers residencies for professional artists. Artists also do workshops and performances for our students, which is fantastic. At the moment we have puppeteers from all over India and for 2 weeks our students will be able to learn about puppets. Today, we met a 12th generation puppeteer and his 300 year old leather puppets. How cool and unreal is it?!

9 years ago together with a bunch of super talented artists, we created a beautiful piece of theatre for young audiences- Fraxi Queen of the Forest. The story has been inspired by deadly disease that had been killing Ash trees across the globe. Today, I came across this article that brings new hope to Ash trees and its ecosystems. Considering the original project's idea came from an article-perhaps it's time for a sequel? What do you think Jack?

Subtle DNA changes in trees demonstrate Charles Darwin’s natural selection – although human help may be needed

There is a lot of talk about the mini series Adolescence in many places. As someone working in schools I can say that many schools in the UK do look like the one presented in the series. Huge number of young people feel sad, lost, and behave in a horrible way as they either want ot fit in or they don't know any better. What's even more tragic is the fact that parents are so clueless or when signalled that there is a problem with their child's behaviour, are in denial and become aggressive themselves. More education is needed for adults as it is our duty to protect and guide young people into what's right and what's wrong. Even though I work with young people on a daily basis and am a mother of adolescents, much of the language had been foreign to me. Please take a look below for some of the emoji meaning to start with. Get interested. Reflect! And talk to your children!

In light of Netflix's newest popular show - Adolescence. CR2 Security would like to take this opportunity to help raise awareness surrounding the online security and safety of your child/teenager.

Online, young people are communicating in ways that most adults completely misunderstand. What looks innocent could potentially have a very different meaning.

Here are some of the 'codes' which may be being used by your child:

🔴 Red Pill – “I see the truth.” Used in toxic male spaces to mean waking up to supposed hidden ‘truths’ about women and society, often linked to misogynistic ideologies.

🔵 Blue Pill – Represents those who are “blind to the truth” or still believe in mainstream views about relationships and gender dynamics.

💥 Dynamite Emoji – An “exploding red pill,” meaning someone is a radicalised incel.

🫘 Kidney Bean – A symbol linked to incel culture, sometimes mocking women.

💯 100 Emoji – Tied to the “80/20 rule,” the belief that 80% of women are only attracted to 20% of men.

🕳️ Black Hole – Used to express depression, hopelessness, or being sucked into negative online spaces.

🌪️ Tornado – Represents chaos or feeling overwhelmed, sometimes used to indicate mental distress.

🐸 Frog Emoji – Associated with alt-right and extremist meme culture, often linked to Pepe the Frog, which has been co-opted by some toxic online groups.

🦅 Eagle – A symbol of extreme nationalism, sometimes used in far-right online spaces.

💀 Skull – While often just slang for “that’s funny” or “I’m dead (from laughing),” in certain groups, it can signal darker themes like nihilism or self-harm.

❤️ 💜 💛 💗 🧡 Heart colours and what each one can represent.

❤️ = Love

💜 = Lust

💛 = “Are you interested?”

💗 = Interested but not in s*x

🧡 = “You’ll be okay”

So what should parents do and some advice?

1️⃣ Get Curious, Not Combative – Ask open-ended questions: “I saw something about emojis meaning different things. Have you heard of this?” Keep the conversation light.

2️⃣ Create a Judgment-Free Zone – If your child feels like they’ll be punished for opening up, they won’t. Make it clear you’re there to listen, not just lecture.

3️⃣ Decode Together – Ask them to explain their digital world. What do different symbols mean? Who are the influencers they follow? Don’t assume—ask.

4️⃣ Teach Critical Thinking – Help them question online content. “Why do you think some groups push this idea? Who benefits?” Arm them with questions, not just rules.

5️⃣ Monitor Without Spying – Open conversations work better than secret surveillance. Make checking in on their online spaces a normal part of parenting, not a crisis move.

6️⃣ Be Real About Manipulation – Explain how toxic online groups groom young people by making them feel special, included, or like they have ‘insider knowledge.’

7️⃣ Build Their Offline Confidence – The more they feel valued and confident in the real world, the less they’ll seek validation in dangerous online spaces.

The digital world is evolving faster than most adults can keep up. But we don’t have to be in the dark!

Some thoughts on Mufasa the Lion King after seeing it with my kids.
Although I’m not a huge fan of live action movies, there were some gorgeous images of Africa that reminded me how I long to spend some time there… The film did not get even close to the first Lion King in terms of music, storyline and most importantly emotional impact. Don’t get me wrong-it was a nicely spent evening but our discussion after we left the cinema was what made it worth money spent.
11 year old Antoni picked up on the issue of colonialism (those huge white lions trying to take over the land, killing whoever stood in their way)-impressive-I thought to myself. Then Marysia said she was disappointed in music…What I found most bothersome is how inconsiderately the character of Taka (Scar) was created. I truly felt sorry for him, and I’m certain it was not the intentions of the creators.
In the original film, Scar is a villain, that everyone hates. In the new film, that tells the story of Mufasa, we get to know Scar as a brave, good-hearted little lion cub, who would save Mufasa’s life numerous times. Scar-a prince, has a loving mother and a father, who is an entitled, rather lazy and not very honourable king. A father, who tells little Scar that deceit is a king’s tool- an advice that would destroy Scar. Mufasa is raised by females who teach him how to hunt and recognise smells of flowers, which makes Mufasa vey much connected with his feminine side. He becomes a king not by entitlement but by his virtues-and rightly so. Scar deceives Mufasa, led by his feeling of rejection, betrayal and hurt. In the end, however he saves Mufasa’s life yet again. Yet, he is still a villain. What bugs me is the total lack of compassion and acknowledgement of the wrong Scar received, even though he was a genuinely good character. He made a mistake that he realised and regretted yet received no forgiveness. No wonder he becomes a villain later. Unjust and emotionally unsatisfying film. “This is how people become evil”-Marysia said. Indeed. Compassion is a powerful thing. It can transform evil. Lack of it-breeds it. “And remember that it all started with colonialism”-said Antoni.
Amazing how not so great movie can provide such a good springboard for a valuable lesson for kids…

I recently went to Bordeaux where a spectacular digital arts venue Bassins des Lumières had an immersive odyssey of Le Petit Prince. It brought me back to my production of The Adventures of the Little Prince that I did years ago with fantastic artists...Beautiful memories! I believe the exhibition is touring. Do catch it if you can as it's truly impressive!
