THANK YOU EDINBURGH GUIDE!
“There is absurd, and then there is Homunculus (and yes, that is a real word; it means “a small artificial human or human-like being”).
…
Written by Santiago Mallan, this comedy-horror-farce blends modern slang with Shakespearean-style prose, with characters bouncing between the two in each sentence. This works… most of the time. With a less common sentence structure, and rapid fire dialogue and very little exposition at the top, I struggled to identify exactly what was going on for the first third of the show. Once I finally did catch on, I came to see Homunculus for what it is: bold, imaginative and unapologetically weird.
Visually, the production is a work of art, overwhelmed with colourful artwork, curiosities and handcrafted details that give a visual representation of the complete chaos happening.
The ensemble cast’s chemistry is the true star of the show. They play off of one another so naturally and with such precision while wreaking havoc; it's no wonder that the audience's laughter flowed so easily and consistently throughout the performance.”
…I can’t say that this is a show for everyone; it is definitely not my usual pick, but for those looking for a camp comedy, this is a must see.
