Berghain is less a club and more a grey concrete purgatory where joy goes to die under a strobe light.
The bouncers guard the door like it’s the gates of Valhalla, only to let you in so you can queue again—this time for a €5 bottle of water and the privilege of being emotionally bludgeoned by 11 hours of kick drums that sound like someone hitting a bin with a mallet.
The crowd, all dressed in the exact same uniform to express their individuality, sway in unison, somewhere between enlightenment and dehydration, while DJs perform the dark ritual of turning a single note into a religion. A great place if your idea of fun is feeling like a depressed robot in a sauna.
