Captain Calamity Live always provides some much needed distraction at Whipps Cross University Hospital and here's a picture from a grateful mother who says, "My daughter had contracted pneumonia and had to be in hospital for three days. She was very weak and lethargic. She was also suffering because it was difficult to locate her veins to draw blood and insert her canula. The session with Captain Calamity was brilliant because it encouraged her to sit up and engage in a positive way as well as distracting her from the discomfort she felt. Captain Calamity found exactly the right tone and level for her. His magic tricks genuinely astonished and delighted her, especially as it was happening right beside her. It was also a lovely break for me to have her engaging with another adult."
Our thanks to Baker Labels and Dermal Laboratories for funding Pod's monthly distraction therapy at Whipp's Cross.

A mother sent this picture of her daughter at Lister Hospital Stevenage and says, " After a few days stay in the hospital, Captain Calamity Live really cheered her up and made her day easier. Absolutely amazing service - was so lovely seeing smiles on poorly children's faces." There are always lots of smiles at Lister Hospital thanks to Dermal Laboratories and Dermal Laboratories staff who have for many years funded 4 Pod sessions every month.

Play Specialist Vicky at St. George's Hospital Tooting sent this Instagram picture and says, " We cannot express how wonderful Captain Calamity Live brightens the day when he visits and how even the quietest children and young people will engage with him, allowing us to then begin to develop relationships with them. He can often be an ice breaker when things are tricky, always being funny but appropriate and professional. We all love him dearly so thank you so much for sending him to St George’s. We don’t know what we would do without him. He is an invaluable honorary member of our team."

There were many favourable comments from parents after April's visit and here are just two of them: "Captain Calamity was great and really bought a smile to the children. This support really helps both child and parent get through the stay." " It made him feel normal again. He had smiles all over his face it was lovely to see. Captain Calamity made a whole difference to my son's day by entertaining him and making him laugh."

Pod's monthly visits here are very kindly funded by Dermal Laboratories.
