We worked with children at Bedes today to explore the idea that gaming needs to be controlled and limited ( their words!). The children decided they wanted to travel into the world of a computer game and then have this realisation through being trapped in the game. Mum was directing them off the computer!

It feels like the tide may be turning? I am finding more and more children speaking about the dangers of compulsive social media and gaming. I enjoyed being led by the children's ideas today as we explored healthy limits and habits for the use of technology.

šŸ–This is an exciting time for PPF. We now have an associate director who has an extensive background working in schools and education and will be working with Lara for 2 days a week.

We also had our first board meeting last night with this lovely lot! Feeling lucky to have the financial and strategic support of , the technology support of our youth advisor and the arts and course design expertise of Sarah Strachen( head of the art department at Roedean girls school).

Our aim is to reach an even wider range of people who would not usually have the opportunity to study and enjoy the arts and digital media. We want to use this creative technology to support personal development, engagement and progression into courses and careers that may not have been on people's radar before studying with us.

We areĀ recruiting for a new board of advisors. Could this be you or someone you know?

PPF is now at a point of change and growth as it extends andĀ diversifies the young people it reaches and the digital /animation technologies it teaches, across Sussex.

We areĀ seeking four new advisors to join our team at this exciting moment as we:

ā€¢ Plan and organise growth across Sussex
ā€¢ Extend the digital technologies we teach into new areas including music tech, film, coding and AI
ā€¢ Rebrand and relaunch (including developing a new website and new social media channels)

WeĀ would love to hear from you if you are someone keen to support the running of a local community organisation; to learn about youth work and how digital media/animation production can best support vulnerable young people and local communities in Sussex. We plan to meet 3 times annually in year one and the role may takeĀ 6Ā andĀ 9 days of your time.

šŸ‘We are almost at the end of our oral histories and animation project about the famous Parker Pens Newhaven factory. It was the largest Parker factory in Europe and the centre of European distribution for many years. It employed 1200 local people and offered everyone a chance for social mobility.

The factory was demolished in 2014 and with it, a lot of local history was in danger of being lost.

We have been lucky enough to interview the 1st Newhaven factory apprentice( now in his 90s) , to talk to George Parker himself and to learn from so many other interesting stories about the past.

DId you know Hillcrest Centre was the local school and children made their own school unforms (from a pattern you were given on the 1st day of year 7)

We would love you to join us for a talk to showcase the project on 4th March at 7pm to hear some of the stories we have recorded and celebrate local history with us and the Newhaven Historican Society!!
