REFLECTION

While you stare at your phone
And count likes on your latest post
I watch clouds drift by
Gaze breathlessly at gossamer streaks of grey
As they emerge then dissolve
Above a fog of morning dew.

While you tap pointless words
On a plastic screen
I track a flock of birds
As they dance across a painted horizon
Zigzagging between jagged trees and hilly mounds
In their ballet across the world.

While you listen to clips
Of useless words said by faceless stars
I hear the roar of monstrous waves
As they crash on the shore
Flinging plumes of white into a salty sky
While shiny pebbles crunch beneath my feet.

While you stare, glassy eyed
Enrapt by the unseen
Which demands to be viewed
Seasons change, music plays,
Strangers smile, sunsets fade
People live
People leave
In real time
Created moment by moment
In the kaleidoscopic turmoil
Called life
Which pass you by
Unless you raise your eyes
And see.
