🏰 WHAT AN AMAZING WEEKEND! 🏹⚔️

The East Sussex Living History Festival at Michelham Priory 2026 is officially done and what a weekend it was!

The weather on the first day was, shall we say, slightly less than noble but a little rain was never going to stop us!

Our archery, axe throwing and Train Like a Knight activities were well and truly put through their paces and, judging by some of the determined faces, so were the public!

There were arrows flying, axes being hurled, knights being trained and plenty of laughter along the way. We met some absolutely brilliant people and loved seeing so many of you having a go.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came to visit The Queens Medieval Experiences. whether you were a seasoned warrior or discovered that perhaps your true medieval calling was standing safely behind the line cheering everyone else on.

And of course, thank you to Michelham Priory and everyone involved in The East Sussex Living History Festival 2026 fantastic event.

We are tired, muddy, probably aching in places we didn't know existe but very, very happy.

Until the next battle!

Hear ye, hear ye! At thy Queens we hath spent a most industrious day sorting targets, badges, trophies, scorecards and enough parchment to keep the royal scribes occupied until Christmas, all in preparation for the The East Sussex Living History Festival's the grand archery competition for reenactors! 🏹

Next week, the royal duties continue: targets must be painted, nets measured and the great carriage loaded. Alongside the reenactors’ grand archery competition, we must also transport the Knight’s Training Ground, axe throwing and archery for the good people of the realm to have a go at. With the sheer amount of equipment travelling with us, it shall feel less like attending a festival and more like relocating the entire kingdom.

Bows, arrows, targets, tents and an alarming number of suspicious cabbages must all make the journey. The Great Cabbage Conspiracy approaches, may the trailer axles show mercy! 🥬😂

A massive thank you to the organisers of Eastbourne Lammas Official for an absolutely brilliant weekend!

We met some wonderful people, enthusiastically munched our way through an impressive amount of amazing food (purely for research purposes, of course), and had a fantastic time teaching the people of Eastbourne a few sword skills. Thankfully, everyone kept all of their limbs!

We're already looking forward to seeing what next year's event has in store. Until then, we'll be sharpening our swords and our appetites. Thanks again to everyone who made it such a memorable weekend!

Anno Domini 2026
Lee

In the twenty-third year of our noble union, let it be known throughout the land that my dear husband and I have successfully survived countless adventures, unexpected challenges, family quests, and more than a few spirited debates over matters of great importance, such as what to have for supper and whose memory of events is actually correct.

Through sunshine and storms, triumphs and trials, we have travelled side by side. We have shared laughter, made memories, supported one another, and occasionally tested each other's patience in ways worthy of a place in the kingdom's history books.

Despite the passing of twenty-three years, you remain my favourite companion on this journey. My partner in every adventure, my voice of reason (whether I ask for it or not), and the one person I would choose again and again.

The royal chroniclers therefore record that while neither of us is perfect, together we have built a life filled with love, laughter, loyalty, and more happiness than any treasure chest could hold.

So today I raise a goblet in your honour and give thanks for twenty-three wonderful years. Here's to many more adventures, much laughter, and continuing to grow old together.

Happy Anniversary, my love. Long may our story continue. ❤️🏰⚔️👑

Set-up day is upon us.

By the cursed hour of 5am, the final pells were at last completed, stoutly bound and destined to suffer three days of glorious battering by aspiring swordsmen.

Now begins the next noble crusade: to load the wagon, journey unto the castle, and raise our encampment before festival commences.

Whilst lesser folk lie abed, i have battle rope, timber, and exhaustion itself in service to medieval splendour.

NEARLY READY… THE LEMON HOLDETH FAST 🍋🏰

Hear ye! After much hammering, muttering, and the ancient art of that’ll do”. The Lemon (the tent of doom) standeth.

She be not straight.
She be not fair.
But by all the saints… she standeth.

Arrows are fletched, targets made, pells await their punishment.
We are near ready for a most glorious weekend!

Hear ye, hear ye! 📯

A further update on The Lemon of Legend 🍋⚔️

After much hammering, tightening, muttering, and several telephone calls to Lucy Horrocks for guidance (and possibly moral support).

👉 She stands.

Not perfectly.
Not convincingly.
But one step closer to greatness (or at least not falling over immediately).

There is still work to be done upon this rebellious pavilion
she yet fights us at every turn
But progress hath been made!
And soon, she shall take her place at Herstmonceux Castle🏰
👉 wonky
👉 stubborn
👉 and improving slowly

Stay tuned, good people… the battle between human and canvas is far from over.

Hear ye! Hear ye! 📯

Let it be known across the land.
Never doth one purchase a medieval pavilion without first casting thine own eyes upon it!

For we, in our boundless optimism (and slight foolishness), have acquired…
👉 a most questionable structure
👉 a tent that hath clearly survived many winters… and lost most of them
👉 in short, an absolute lemon of the realm 🍋⚔️

Yet fear not, good people!
The Queen’s company shall not be defeated by a grumpy canvas and a few rebellious poles!

We shall patch, mend, tighten, and possibly threaten it with a sword and by the weekend, it shall stand (or at least lean convincingly) as part of our noble encampment 🏕️

Stay tuned for tales of repair, resilience, and mild swearing behind the scenes…

⚔️ Hear Ye, Hear Ye! A Most Peaceful Sunday Lies Ahead… ⚔️

This fine day hath been declared one of rest and relaxation…
(or so we keep telling ourselves).

Plans for the day include:
🏹 Preparing arrows for battles yet to come
🛠️ Showing some much-needed TLC to our new (to us) pavilion…
a noble structure, though currently held together by hope and determination
🧹 Restoring order to the kingdom after recent chaos

A calm and gentle Sunday, surely.

…until one task turns into ten, tools appear from nowhere, and we find ourselves knee-deep in “just one quick job.”

Such is the peaceful Sunday of The Queens Medieval Experience.

🐉⚔️ Happy St George’s Day, good people of the realm! ⚔️🐉

On this day, brave St George did valiantly slay a rather troublesome dragon (we assume it started it)

Sadly, we’ve checked our fields, hedgerows, and suspicious bushes and can confirm, no dragons available for slaying today 🐉💨

From all of us at The Queens Medieval Experience, we wish thee a day full of fun, laughter, and just a hint of heroic glory!

And should thou wish to train for thy future dragon-slaying career… 👀

📅 Join us at the Heritage Weekend
📍 Herstmonceux Castle
🗓 2nd, 3rd & 4th May 2026

Come test thy skill at:
🏹 Archery
🪓 Axe Throwing
⚔️ Knight Training

Sharpen thy aim… for one day, a dragon may return
