**Trigger Warning - Subject: Baby Loss**
I don’t often use the page for personal posts, as I try to keep my personal and business lives separate, however today I’m making an exception as I think it’s important, especially with Baby Loss Awareness week coming up soon.
Yesterday, my Son Alex should have been 12 years old, however he was stillborn, at 2 weeks past full term. Everything from that day still etched in fine detail, as if it’s in 4k Ultra HD.
I struggled Friday evening, not really wanting to go to sleep after getting in from working, my mind replaying the timeline in my head, emotions and all.
We miss Alex so much, which I know many still find strange, but it’s hard to explain. I miss his little face, I even miss holding him. I miss the fact that we won’t ever know what he’d have grown up to look like. I miss that I haven’t gotten to know him, his passions, his personality. That’s what hurts the most, not being able to have been a father to him.
However, I have to look forward, and to all the positives. Alex is a piece of the intricate puzzle that makes up my family. He is a blessing, as he’s a huge part of who we are as a family unit and individuals, a huge part of our story. He also showed us how lucky we are with so many supportive family and friends around us all.
That’s the main point I suppose, looking past all the pain, the hurt, the anger (which believe me still bubbles up occasionally), I’ve learned to accept our story, and to be thankful for Alex, and they way we’ve grown in those 12 years since.
Why am I telling you this on a page about SpeedQuizzing? It’s simple really, I’m working to break the taboo around Baby Loss, and to show it’s ok for Men to talk, and to feel emotions.
Most importantly, I want anyone who’s been through Baby Loss, to know that I’m a willing ear or shoulder of support if they need it. I can also help point them to amazing organisations such as Baby Loss United FC, for support. I’m really pleased to be working with them again on the 15th of October at their Wave of Life event.
If you read to the end thank you, and if you want to chat anytime, drop me a message.
