Really exciting opportunity this coming weekend to drop-in for a sewing workshop! No booking necessary, just drop-in anytime throughout Friday October 26 to Monday 29th 10am - 4pm. The machines will be set-up and ready over all 4 days as part of the Cowal Open Studios long weekend. We’re venue #15 on the Cowal Open Studios map! It’s free to visit the studio & find out more about my practice and if you would like to do a workshops it’s just £20 for 1-hour which includes instruction and all the wonderful fabrics and haberdashery you will need. We’ve had some great 1-2-1 Sewing Workshops and there’s now morning and afternoon places available on Tuesday 29July and Saturday 2August, 10am-12pm and 1-3pm on both days. It’s focused time to pursue your own project or learn / refresh sewing skills, or you could use one of our patterns to inspire your making. On this beautiful Dunoon day, just wanted to let you know we’ve a new workshop starting tomorrow afternoon, Mend Alter Customize, Saturday 12 July, 1-3pm. It’s based around your Own Project, so if you’re wondering how to shorten sleeves, lengthen trousers, fix a tear or sew a button on, or want to have a go at customising your clothes, book a space on to the workshop! It’s for Beginners to Intermediate.
Before that, in the morning, at 10am-12pm we have the Sewing Skills workshop about all things buttons & Buttonholes which is also for Beginners to Intermediate.

I love workshop days & Sewing Tutor! We did a Seams workshop this morning, it really ensures your sewing foundation-stones are firmly in place! We have another Seams Sewing Skills Workshop this Tuesday, 10am-12pm and in the afternoon we have a 3-workshop course starting, making a super simple stylized Kimono. The project is for beginners to intermediate. It’s an encouraging way to get into sewing, because we take you step-by-step through learning or refreshing the skills you’ll need & then making the kimono. I had this beautiful embroidered vintage linen tablecloth from my Mum I didn’t use very much but couldn’t possibly get rid of … what to do? … I made it into this really easy-to-wear, super-useful stylized Kimono! It was a straight-forward sewing project too, because it’s mainly all about Seams.
And this Saturday we’ve got a workshop in the morning covering all different Seams and then in the afternoon … drum roll! … we’re starting a beginner to intermediate 3-week Kimono course!
So if you’ve got some old curtains, or an old skirt perhaps, or even a tablecloth you love but don’t use, bring it along, let’s upcycle it!

You'll get all the Sewing Tutor portfolio pages with instructions on (to remind you how you made the sample which you can attach to the pages) and we have all the equipment here you’ll need (if you have your own though, it’s great to bring it so you use what you will be using after the workshop) and we also include all the fabric & haberdashery you need for your sewing samples! Had a great 1-2-1 workshop today! Started with an oversized dress, a blouse & a small piece of fabric … finished with a re-sized dress & 2 skirts! It’s nearly Saturday and Sewing Tutor has the first of the Sew Upcycle / Own Project workshops! So if you still love the fabric but not the garment or decor item, don't throw it, come with your ideas & upcycle it! In this 2-hour workshops, for Beginners to Intermediate, we’ll help you to plan & make a new garment or décor item from your pre-loved fabric. If you need to learn or refresh skills to make that happen all the fabric & haberdashery for your skill-samples is here for you. All the equipment & tools you will need are also provided (including a sewing machine) and we have patterns you can look through if you’re needing ideas! This workshop is then repeated on Tuesday also at 1-3pm.

Excited to tell you about the first of a new line up of Sewing Tutor workshops … this Saturday morning, 3rd May 10am-12pm, is Session-1 of a 3-session workshop, Beginners Sewing Skills & Project, which includes getting to grips with skills you will need for your sewing project!
Then in the afternoon, 3rd May 1-3pm, is the workshop, How To Use A Sewing Machine. This is a great taster workshop, or the opportunity to start your sewing journey, particularly if you’re just not sure how!
