Hello from Dunfermline šŸ‘‹

I’m Pauline, the artist behind Incriminate Art and I’ve got the account today as part of Open Studios weekend in June.

I work in mono printing, mixed media, building up layers of paint, ink, collage (and sometimes stitch) to explore colour, texture, and slightly unexpected combinations. Experimenting and just seeing what happens!

A lot of my work starts with gel plate printing. It can be messy, unpredictable, and rarely does what it’s told!

Today I’ll be sharing:
• a look around my studio
• how pieces develop (and sometimes go a bit rogue 🫣)
• what you’ll see when I’m open in June

I’m based in Duloch Park, Dunfermline and will be taking part in Open Studios on 6 & 7 June—full details to follow closer to the time.

Right—let’s get into it šŸŽØ

Chaos, basically ... 🫣

Pick colours.
Mix things.
Cut shapes.

Then onto the gel plate where it all gets a bit… unpredictable.

At some point I usually decide I hate everything šŸ™ƒ
So I leave it overnight, come back the next day, trim things, turn them around…

…and suddenly a few of them aren’t terrible after all.

Art is a rollercoaster šŸŽ¢, apparently.

Hello, it's Pauline again and onto my final post of the takeover.

So, why do I do this?

Mainly because I like the feeling of creating something that can’t be repeated.

Most of what I do starts with shapes — often found in completely ordinary places. I’m always looking at things and thinking ā€œwhat would happen if I printed with that?ā€ ( is surprisingly useful for this…)

There isn’t an insightful message behind my creations; I’m not trying to say anything in particular. It’s much more about discovery - I just want to see what happens when colours, shapes and layers come together. The best moments are when something unexpected works: a colour combination I wouldn’t have planned, or a shape that lands surprises me.

I like to think I’m in control šŸ«£ā€¦ but honestly, surprise wins every time.

I came back to making art about 4 or 5 years ago, and I’m still not entirely convinced I know what I’m doing. There’s a fair amount of ā€œI’d like to be an artist when I grow upā€ energy going on.

I’ve learnt (slowly) that the more I overthink things, the worse the work gets.
It’s always better when I just get on with it and see what happens.

There are definitely moments where I think ā€œthis is rubbishā€ but I’ve also learnt not to trust that feeling too much. Things left overnight often look completely different the next day.

And anyway… it’s too much fun 🤩 to stop.

If someone buys a piece, I don’t need them to understand it. I just want them to enjoy looking at it - the colours, the shapes, the way it is. Nothing complicated. Just something that keeps drawing your eye back.
