You may have seen that I've been 'nominated' for a Dunfermline Business Award. I felt I should make a statement about this as I've made the decision to ask to be removed from this.

While it should feel like an honour to be nominated for an award and then be 'shortlisted', I've not felt great about this since I heard. Mixed emotions between being excited to be included in a local business award ceremony and then trepidation because I couldn't find out anything about the organisers of this event and had no idea how I had even been 'nominated'.

After some research and chats with fellow business owners who had also been 'nominated' we discovered that in order to win this award I would have to badger all my friends, family and customers to vote for me - making it a bit of a popularity contest. The organisers also are not actually local and a company from Bradford - nowhere near Dunfermline. Rather than it being authentic and a true reflection on my achievements with my business, judged by experts, it seems to be a very much staged event where I would need to pay an unknown amount to even be at the event to receive such an award. AND then pay to receive a 'certificate'.

I don't need something like this. I would much more prefer getting genuine feedback from my customers. I'm also proud of what I've achieved with my business and don't consider myself a 'start up' which they have categorised me as.

I will say thank you to the organisers of this event, I really do appreciate your consideration. I just don't think it feels right for me.
