Weapons taking shape!

The Phantom’s armament is coming together with Kaleido paints for the metallic work, sprayed through the Gaahleri Möbius.

Still a few details and weathering stages to go before they’re ready to hang under the Phantom.

If you’re looking to try the Möbius yourself, use ASM at checkout for 10% off.

What should go on first for the final assembly — missiles or fuel tanks?

Phantom progress!

It’s been a busy couple of days at work and on the bench.

The canopy is painted and fitted. Massive thanks as always to ukscalemodeller for great masks, I would never get clean lines by hand. The radar is ready to install, and the armament has received its base coats.

Now it’s time to bring the missiles, tanks, and pylons to life before everything comes together for the final assembly.

What loadout would you choose for an RAF Phantom, fully armed or a cleaner look with just the tanks?

Phantom progress!

Varnish is down, the landing gear is on, and all decals are secure in place.

Next up is the canopy and weapons, bringing this RAF Phantom one step closer to the finish line.

What’s the stage you always look forward to most at the end of a build?

348 decals later… she’s finally wearing her markings.

The Airfix 1/72 RAF Phantom has now reached 348 exterior decals, and every stencil has been worth the effort. The red fin is really starting to stand out, and the airframe is finally looking like the iconic RAF Spey Phantom.

Next up is sealing everything with a clear coat before the weathering and landing gears.

It’s been a marathon of decals, but seeing all that surface detail come to life makes it worthwhile.

Who else enjoys applying stencils, and who just wants to skip straight to the weathering?

107 decals down… and the underside is finally complete!

The lower surfaces of the Airfix 1/72 RAF Phantom are now covered in stencils and markings. It takes time, but all those tiny decals really bring the aircraft to life.

Next up, the upper.

How do you tackle large decal sessions, one marathon sitting or spread over a few evenings?

Progress continues on the 1/72 RAF Phantom!

The camouflage is now complete, and I’ve started adding depth with a sepia panel line wash. It gives the surface detail a subtle, weathered look that really complements the RAF greys without overpowering the finish.

Next up will be the Spey engine and exhausts before moving on to the decals.

Really pleased with how this build is coming together. Looking forward to seeing it all tied together with the markings.

Do you prefer to apply your panel line wash before or after decals, and what colours do you like to use?
