After a hiatus of creating art work, I finally blew the cobwebs away and resolved to lean into more perfectionism and less abstract. There is a long term reason for this, which rests on the beauty side of my life. I’ll be learning how to do hyper realism eyebrow tattooing which will rely heavily on my drawing skills.

Drawing birds and the really fine details will help with that. It’s been good prep. This is an 8x6, mixed media piece, including watercolour, pastel and pen.

Happy new year to you all. Wx

Due to popular demand, I’ve managed to get my third calendar created. I’ve found pictures that I’d forgotten I’d done.
These pastels cover Droitwich, Broadway, Bewdley, Woolacombe and Burnham O***y Staithe in Norfolk.
These are all places I’ve stood and taken the picture, except December which is a combination of a friend and her dog in an imagined snow scene.
They open out to A4 and I’ve kept the price to £15. Let me know if you like one. Wx

Last week I was fortunate enough to spend a couple of days with internationally renowned artist, Tony Alain. Creating colourful landscapes in pastel.
This last year, I’ve had a bit of a creative block and not done an awful lot of artwork at all. Just doodling with my art buddies from time to time. So, it was enjoyable to focus on pastel landscapes for a change. Still chasing that elusive looseness and light…..

We had great fun in the Hub this arvo. Playing with colour palettes and trying very hard to loosen up and let the hand do the moving. It’s certainly a great way to be expressive.

Wow! What a superb day with yesterday. Myself and my friend spent the day with Kirsty learning watercolour techniques. We learned so much from a beginner’s perspective. It was well worth it as Kirsty really wanted us to learn as much as possible.

also learned that I was right; that anyone can draw or paint if they are taught the techniques.

I met Helen during our lockdown restrictions as I had just joined and
Helen had invited DAN members to her house and gardens for a plein air session.
-
As Chair of DAN she has been nothing short of supportive, caring, encouraging and bakes THE best lemon drizzle cake. Helen has supported me massively and steered myself and other fellow artists to get more involved within the community and even managed to get some of our artwork in situ at the Droitwich Railway Station.
-
It was meaningful for me to be able to present Helen with the sketch I’d painted of her gardens during that first en plein air meeting. It had been tucked away for so long that I’d forgotten all about it. So, I spruced it up a bit, trying to avoid doing too much and keep that raw Impressionism I’m always working towards. It seemed fitting to share it with Helen on behalf of DAN as it demonstrates how much she gave so generously to the group.
Helen, you’re a wonderful friend and thank you so much for all you’ve done to help me but also DAN. You will be very much missed. Xx
