Day 5 (late again!) of Make Joy in July, and today’s prompt word is Yarn 🧶

Naturally, my mind goes to the literal stuff: gorgeous hanks of wool and the log of my yarn stash. But I also love the traditional meaning of the word: spinning a yarn, telling a winding tale.

It makes me think of my Great Aunty Ellen, an absolute hero of mine. She used to read tea leaves and predict the future, spinning the most magical stories from the bottom of a teacup.

This blouse I am wearing in the photo was actually made by my mum using a gorgeous piece of silk fabric that Aunty Ellen gave to me.

Aunty Ellen’s stories came from a place of pure connection.

These days, I save the storytelling for the studio and use my voice to say things as they are.

Whether you want to learn how to weave actual yarn into textured artwork, or you just want to sit and listen to me crack a few jokes while learning a new craft, you need to be on my course list.

My upcoming three-hour creative workshops are coming soon. Direct message me to join the mailing list and be first to hear about what’s going on! Thanks 🙏

If your plans for the weekend involve gardening, please consider carefully where you purchase your plants. Supporting a local and independent plant nursery is always the best approach! Keep your money in the local economy.

Please stop buying plants from supermarkets and bargain home stores; they are mass produced loss leaders and not cared for.

There are some fantastic family run nurseries in this area, so please make the effort to support them. This video features Longdendale Nursery in Chapel, but others are available - what’s your favourite nursery or grower in the area?

A very important message about nature from the amazing Sir - Teach your children well folks and plant some pollinators purchased from your friendly LOCAL PLANT NURSERY - NOT Supermarkets or bargain home stores - these people don’t care about plants, they care about profits and loss leaders

Something special is taking shape at Peel Hall Primary School.

Every child deserves the chance to get outside, get muddy, and grow alongside nature. This is just a taster of what is happening in Wythenshawe. The full reveal is coming, and it will be worth the wait.

On Thursday we finally got our hands in the soil, and what a day it was. Planting has begun, and this space is well on its way from uninspiring to brilliant.

This is exactly what Salthouse Collaborate is about. Bringing people together, nurturing growth, and making things happen that simply wouldn’t happen alone.

We are genuinely proud to be working alongside some remarkable people on this one.

The Bursary Foundation, dedicated to making sure every child has an equal chance. Jenny Hopkinson’s passion is infectious.

The Wise Owl Trust whose vision for these children is nothing short of inspiring.

Cool Canvas, .canvas who have created the most wonderful bones for this outdoor space. What a team!

Bowker Sadler Partnership who have generously sponsored the plant supply. Business manager got stuck right in!

Julia Kirkham Garden Design for her support and sponsorship, sourcing beautiful snowdrops from

Helen Jay Marketing for giving her very valuable time to shoot all the footage and create this fantastic reel.
