August memories ☀️

We have had a brilliant August at Derby Book Festival with two events at Electric Daisy including a brilliant talk from Rob Hopkins and our fun-filled Bookworms event!

It was also great to be a part of the Moorways Sports Village Play Day and celebrating the National Year of Reading as we handed out free books, had crafts and shared information about our children's programme at Derby Market Hall organised by Derby City Council.

Thank you to all involved and to everyone who joined us at our events!

See you soon for our November Festival! 👀

What a brilliant night we had last night! 🌍

We were joined by the incredible climate activist and Transition Network cofounder, Rob Hopkins, who shared what Derby will look like (or rather should and could) in the year 2036 if we create a world we are deeply in love with.

Offering a new perspective on the climate crisis, it was inspiring, informative and gave us all a good laugh!

And what better place to have this brilliant talk, a huge thank you to Electric Daisy for having us! 🌲

Thank you Rob for joining us!

How does reading bring people together? 📚

The second of our special Derby Book Festival podcast episodes is now live! Recorded during the Festival in May, this new episode of A Shared Reading Podcast continues our Summer Festival feature series, capturing some of the conversations, stories and moments of connection.

In this episode:

Joanna Cannon, author of An Unlikely Visitor, joins us to talk about writing, reading and the ideas behind her work.

Patrick Gale, author of Love Lane, speaks to us about his writing, characters and the role stories can play in helping us understand ourselves and one another.

Sian Hoyle, Derby Book Festival Director, reflects on this year’s Festival, what stood out, and why bringing people together around books continues to matter.

Gilly McArthur, author of The Beauty of Cold, talks about cold water, joy, connection and the restorative power of nature.

Together, these conversations offer a rich and varied glimpse into the Festival, moving from fiction and character to nature, wellbeing, community and the many ways reading can connect us 🩵

Join climate activist and Transition Network cofounder Rob Hopkins this month as we look at the question: what would the world look like if we all got to work imagining and then building a world we were deeply in love with?

This is the question posed in his latest book, How to Fall in Love with the Future: A Time Traveller’s Guide to Changing the World.

There are an infinite number of possible futures that lie ahead and Rob invites us to travel to future worlds we would actually want to live in.
