Well, I don’t know about you but I really enjoyed the Singaround last night. We had a really good turnout and lots of variety from tunes to songs to chatter over pizza and chocolate. What more could you want.

See you next week ☺️

The Vernon Arms Folk and Acoustic Club meets every Tuesday from 8.00ish to 10.45ish. We have a small p.a. with single condenser mic and on the last Tuesday of each month, we have a fully acoustic Singaround with no amplification. The general rule for p.a. nights is two songs per act or 10 minutes - whichever is shorter and for Singaround nights, it’s one song per act. We usually get round more that once so you are likely to get second shot or even a third on Singaround nights. Please note that unlike some of the local clubs, we work on a basis of per act, not per person.

Look forward to seeing you there

Last week was quieter than usual but it didn’t stop us being able to fill the evening with some quality songs, tunes and poetry. We saw the very welcome return of Clive and a promise that we will be seeing more of him, and a first as John hit up at the end of the evening to add to Matt’s vocal on John Barleycorn to round off a lovely evening.
Normal singers night this week and an unplugged night next week. Hope to see you at one or t’other - or both ☺️

Thanks to all for a lovely evening last Tuesday. We opted for an acoustic evening since we weren’t expecting many people to turn out given the weather but we ended up with 13 performers and lots of variety.
Just a reminder then in case you’re getting confused - this Tuesday will be last in the month so it will, once again, be an acoustic evening.
£2 buys you a couple of raffle tickets, and you can enjoy supper and a very pleasant evening of mixed music/poetry etc and some friendly faces. 8pm onwards.

What a smashing evening we had last night. We were treated to a set from Route 65. Newly formed but by no means newly qualified ☺️ We were treated to a very polished 45 minutes ahead of their debut gig on Friday evening. If you missed them last night, head to the Tiny Tap, Darley Abbey this Friday at 7.30 and catch that gig!
Good luck guys. We think you’ll go far ❤️

Just a reminder that we have country band Route 65 starting us off tomorrow evening with a 30-35 minute set. Normal singers night afterwards.

See you later

Well, we managed to survive the broken heating by switching to a singaround and huddling in a corner. A nice turn out though and as ever, an enjoyable night with a lovely variety of offerings. Next week is the last Tuesday in the month so it will be another singaround and then on Tuesday 3rd Feb, we have a little treat. Local band Route 65 will be with us for the first 30-35 minutes with some country music. No extra charge on the door other than the usual £2 so come along and support Route 65.

Thanks to all who joined us at The Vernon last night for our first gathering of 2026. I’m sure the weather played its part in the low turnout but we did have a perfectly formed dozen. We chose to forego the PA in case the threatened snow arrived so it was a lovely impromptu sing around with tons of variety from Mary’s eloquent and inspiring poetry to James’ perfectly performed Hebridean working song.
If you’ve thought about giving us a try, maybe 2026 is the year to jump in. We have been running in our current format for over 25 years and although there is a core of regulars, there is always room to accommodate newcomers who will be made most welcome. And we are a very nurturing bunch if it’s your first foray into singing, spoken word or anything else you have to offer. Or, of course, you can simply come and enjoy everyone else’s performance and see if it inspires you to have a go.

Here’s to a musical 2026!!!

A very Happy New Year to all of our regulars and a reminder that we are back to normal this evening so if you fancy braving the weather, we’ll see you there starting at 8pm ☺️

It’s the event of the year!! Yes, It’s the Vernon Arms Folk and Acoustic Club’s Christmas Evening. I’m sure there will be plenty of Christmas themed songs and jumpers as well as an impressive raffle. We haven’t already had a couple of apologies due to illness and Rob and I are keeping our fingers crossed that we will be well enough tomorrow- although it’s far from certain at the moment. So, make sure you get along if you can as this will be the last one before Christmas.
Thank you to all who have supported the club in 2025 and will, I’m sure, continue to do so in 2026.
