Our new rescue hens lay white eggs, which has been a point of conversation this week as some people aren’t keen on the change - as my mum put it ‘we were taught brown eggs were healthier’

This feels like egg racism 😆 your supermarket eggs are going to be white now because the UK now use white chickens (apparently they eat less so more economical - don’t get me started on that though!)

Guys! You all know it’s the inside that counts and the outside is irrelevant!! It doesn’t matter if you get pink, yellow or blue eggs!

But let’s break the myth!!!!

The only difference between brown and white eggs is the color of the shell, which is determined solely by the breed of the chicken. They are nutritionally identical and taste the exact same.

Why are they different?

Genetics: Hens with white feathers and white earlobes typically lay white eggs, while hens with red feathers and red earlobes lay brown eggs.

Pigmentation: All eggshells start white inside the hen. If the breed produces pigment (protoporphyrin), the shell turns brown.

If you want healthier eggs, buy farm fresh - because our birds aren’t kept in barns by the thousand and have access to a real free range life 🥰 you wont get better than farm fresh, regardless of the colour!

It’s as soggy as dexi out there this morning! Thunder and lightning since about 4am I think! Shout out to Bowesfield Hydrotherapy for providing the local dogs with an amazing place to swim, perfect exercise in hot or cold weather 🥰 book in with them now! 🏊‍♂️
