‘She was my shelter and my storm’ What an amazing book by Arundhati Roy. Her life story woven around an unusual tribute to her mother. Two incredible woman, one who caused great trauma but also great independence of mind. One that Arundhati escaped from but also had an incredible amount of respect for. Her mother was a ‘gangsta’ and revered by most who knew her for her incredible achievements. Learning about her hilarious, awful and sometimes downright unbelievable behaviour is an incredible way to understand Arundhati herself and the complexity of women and mother/daughter relationships. A hilarious and deeply troubling and moving book all rolled into one. About the author and the incredible woman who shaped her, in good and terrible ways! A must read!

“Our father was a servant leader – not only to our family, but to the oppressed, the voiceless, and the overlooked around the world,” the Jackson family said in a statement. “We shared him with the world, and in return, the world became part of our extended family. His unwavering belief in justice, equality, and love uplifted millions, and we ask you to honor his memory by continuing the fight for the values he lived by.” Trailblazer, civil rights leader and politician, before there was Obama, there was the Reverend Jesse Jackson. Rest in Eternal Peace. ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿❤️

I’m so thrilled that this incredible film, Sinners has broken the Oscar nomination record. Getting the most Oscar nominations for a single film with 16! It is so well deserved. I’m no lover of the vampire genre but this was amazing in so many ways and I’m thrifted that its Director, Ryan Coogler, and many of its stars, , Wunmi Mosaku and Delroy Lindo have also been nominated but another first is for Ruth E Carter, the films costume designer, who is now the most Oscar nominated Black woman in history with 5 nominations for Malcolm X, Amistad, Black Panther, Wakanda Forever and Sinners. Incredible achievement! We wish all of the team behind this amazing film the very best for Oscars night! We are rooting for Teyana Taylor and Jessie Buckley, amongst others too!

What an absolute pleasure it’s been reading this amazing collection of writing by the wonderful, leading Black feminist, Stella Dadzie. An assortment of poetry, draft and published pieces of creative writing, short stories, speeches photographs and artwork. A Whole Heap of Mix Up, covers mixed heritage identity, politics, Black feminism, activism, family and her travel adventures in Africa, Caribbean and beyond. Stella’s reflections on being of mixed heritage resonated so much with me. As did being a feminist, an educator, traveler and an activist. Where was this when I needed it, growing up as a young woman, figuring out who I was!?! Stella clearly loves life, music, family, Ghana, her activism and her circle of incredible female friends. I loved this from start to finish. Thanks Stella Dadzie for the gift of this collection!

If you haven’t seen No Half Measures by HELCH (seen on bridges, walls and buildings all over London and beyond) then it’s the last day to catch his solo show at BSMT Gallery in Dalston. We loved the preview night and the evolution of his style. Pop on down there today if you can. If not, here are a few pics. Thanks to and for featuring my banging jacket in the preview shots! I had no idea I’d be matching so well.
