https://pimlicomusicalfoundation.org.uk/programmes/ The Pimlico Musical Foundation (Registered Charity Number: 1163223) aims to offer musical opportunities to young people in Pimlico. The Foundation delivers a musical education for those who may not otherwise be able to access it, providing chances to develop musicianship skills and to

perform in choirs. This will give participants new skills and further opportunities in society at large. The opportunity to have a musical training is an essential part of any child’s education. Research shows that just eight weeks of musical training can significantly improve a child’s perception, language and literacy skills, whilst also having a significant impact on their personal and social development. Furthermore, evidence suggests that group music lessons promote social cohesion and result in increased levels of engagement amongst disaffected young people. It is also proven that children with access to musical training are likely to perform well academically and socially, providing additional life chances and career prospects.

“A significant proportion of young people are transformed when they discover music, usually by taking part in it… those who are transformed have their lives changed in such a powerful way that it is our duty to seek them out”
Ralph Allwood MBE, Artistic Director, Pimlico Musical Foundation

The Pimlico Musical Foundation complements the national curriculum by stretching those pupils who could benefit from additional training. We run two Pimlico-based groups, made up of local children of primary school age:

• The Pimlico Children's Choir, which will perform a range of repertoire in concerts in Pimlico
• The Foundation Scholars, an advanced group who receive a rounded musical education based at St Gabriel’s. The Pimlico Musical Foundation is committed to equal opportunities. It does not operate with any faith biases and is non-political.

It’s increasingly tough to fundraise for core costs support; that’s why we’re incredibly thankful to the Swire Charitable Trust as we move into the final 12 months of their 3 years of funding towards PMF, totalling £15,000.

For over 50 years, the trust has been supporting charities like ours, who are committed to delivering positive and lasting change in the UK. We’re so grateful that they have chosen to support our mission, which enables us to continue bringing free singing opportunities to young people in Pimlico.

The summer holidays have got us in a reflective mood and so we are going to start sharing some of the wonderful testimonials PMF receives from its choir members, audience members, partners and donors.

Mondays are usually SingOut! days and so many members of our casual singing group have touching things to say about the impact being part of the choir has on them. It’s so much more than a choir, though - it’s a social group, and you’ll often find SingOut! at one of our local Pimlico pubs on a Monday evening after rehearsals 😊

The new Autumn term for SingOut! starts on Monday 14th September. Anyone can join, and it’s free - so why not pop along to try it out? Sign up link is in our bio 🔗

The Chorus joined forces with Children’s Choir, our Teacher-Singers and a Baroque Orchestra to create a bombastic performance that filled the eaves of St Gabriel’s!

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the concert, our volunteers and staff; here’s to the next year of PMF 🎊

SingOut! DressUp!

It’s Monday, which means it’s SingOut! day. Our ‘just for fun’ singing programme is going from strength to strength, the WhatsApp group is popping off, and we even have a weekly dress-up theme which brings even more joy and laughter to our evening rehearsals, as you can see by these glorious photos 🤪

Can you guess what some of the recent themes have been?

Novelty costume is entirely optional of course, but this little side quest just shows what a friendly community the group has become in just a couple of years since it first started 🤗

So why not pop along to give it a try and see what tonight’s theme turns out to be? It runs weekly from 7pm in St Gabriel’s Halls - more info at the link in our bio if you need it 🔗
