Here are our minor principals (why minor - they are just as important as the big 4?) We have Beatrice Monaco as Flora Bervoix, Kara Malton as Anina, June Stevenson as Gastonne, Stephen Brown as Doctor Grenvil, and Stephen Moseley as the Marquis d'Obigny. All of them are regular singers with Red Earth Opera, and it is lovely to have such talent to step up into these roles.

Other small parts (not photographed) include Emily Grossman as the gypsy fortune teller, Carolyn Harries as Josephine, Andrew Swinbank as a footman to Flora, Edward Topp as a messenger, and William Eveleigh as Piquillo - the young Spanish Matador. Not to forget the Chudleigh gentlemen as footmen to Violetta.

With an orchestra of 27 (including the off-stage harp), and a chorus of 30 this is opera at a scale rarely seen in Devon, especially from a local company.

Previous principals have gone on to sing with ENO, ETO, Opera North, WNO, Vienna Statsopera, Opera in Ulm, Opera de Bauge and many other prestigious companies as soloists and in professional choruses. Come and hear and see more stars of the future.

Meet the cast - Roman Zosan will sing Baron Douphol.

Educated in Lithuania, studying music and law at school, Roman realised his love of singing. Firstly, solo singing in church then
joining the State Folk Ensemble of Song and Dance. In a multinational choir he visited Poland singing in many languages - Italian, Polish, Latin and Lithuanian, later joining the prestigious Vilnius Conservatoire where he undertook further training.

A laureate of the international vocal competition of Moniuszko in Poland and also Zenone Paulausko’s singing competition in the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, Roman has sung in
Kalmán’s operetta Die Zirkusprinzessin (The Circus Princess). After
relocating to Cornwall, joining Duchy Opera in 2013 , he extended his repertoire to Donizetti, Verdi and Rachmaninoff. He has performed a diverse range of roles in The Elixir of Love, Cavalleria Rusticana, Trial by Jury and Die Fledermaus. In 2025 he sang Baron Douphol for Duchy Opera and he’s delighted to be singing the role again for Red Earth Opera.

Meet the cast - Harrison Morton-Deaville will sing Georgio Germont.

British baritone, Harrison, is currently refining his craft at the Royal Academy of Music under the esteemed guidance of Mark Wildman. At just twenty three, Harrison is already distinguishing himself through a vocal maturity and dramatic command rarely found in such a young artist, particularly within the demanding Italian repertoire.

In this production he brings his ‘commanding presence’ to the role of Giorgio Germont. This follows his portrayal of the formidable Enrico(Henry VIII) in Donizetti’s Anne Boleyn with Red Earth Opera in March 2025.

His foundational experience includes ensemble appearances in Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschero with Opera on Location in Sheffield, Bizet’s Carmen at the Royal Academy, and Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus at the Royal Northern College of Music. Looking ahead, Harrison returns to the music of Mozart this season, exploring the enchanting landscapes of Die Zauberflöte for the Academy’s opera scenes, to continue his Master’s degree

Sadly, our lovely pianist Daphne is not able to take on the repetiteur role for Red Earth Opera La Traviata in 2026. Is there anyone out there interested in gaining experience playing for our principals' music rehearsals in March and April (weekends)? Accommodation and a small negotiable fee on offer. Please get in touch if you want to discuss this further.
