Lastly…. Me… the third organiser of the Art Trail that’s happening this Saturday.

I’m Lucia Lovatt, I live in Chippenham and am passionate about celebrating art in my home town.

Until recently, I’ve been running the successful Art Fairs and Craft Markets held monthly in Chippenham. Going forward I am planning fewer, but bigger art fairs in Chippenham.

I also hold fortnightly Paint Along Classes in Cafe Grounded, that gives guests an insight into my painting practice.

I volunteer in the Kandu Shop in Emery gate every Tuesday, where you can visit me and watch me paint.

Although I studied photography, and ran an equine and dog photography company for 8 years, I have been painting my whole life. Lockdown gave me the opportunity to turn my passion into a business which is now thriving.

I am a self taught painter, specialising in animal art work. I work mainly in acrylic paint, and some times watercolour.

I like to 'start stories' through my animal studies, although I don’t always admit what these stories should be. I invite the viewer to make their own.

I experiment constantly with these story narratives, which keeps my painting ideas new and fresh for each series.

Currently, I am exploring movement and drama in my work, mainly through splashes of weather or water.

I also enjoy taking on pet portrait commissions, as I thrive on the pressure to produce to a brief.

The second of the three organisers of the Chippenham Art Trail, which is THIS Saturday is the very talented artist Rae Melody.

Originally from Yorkshire, Rae has lived in Chippenham for over fifteen years. Before embarking on running her own business as an artist, Rae was an art teacher and taught within the Special Needs sector for ten years.

Throughout her career Rae has been an advocate for the importance of promoting positive mental health and wellbeing and is also a Thrive Practitioner.

Whilst teaching, Rae worked closely with Kandu Arts, Chippenham and is now a director of the company.

She is also a Freelance Facilitator at the RWA, Bristol where she runs workshops for Autistic children and for children with Profound Learning Difficulties.

Painting is Rae’s passion. She has a studio in Chippenham, her ā€˜happy place’ and feels blessed to be able to do what she loves every day.

Rae creates contemporary abstract paintings with an emphasis on the use of colour and has always been fascinated by paint, textures, interesting surfaces and mixing colours.

Much of her art is inspired by the Earth, nature & environment and patterns in the Universe that are repeated on different scales.

Rae's work is often led by intuition and imagination, portraying images that are not seen with the eyes but that come from a place within.

You can find Rae's work on line here:

Or you can see her work in the Yelde Hall exhibition running at the moment, and you can meet Rae and see more of her work at Platinum House on Saturday for the Art Trail.

And finally.... the organisers - us! We should introduce ourselves to you as well....

Meet Helen Swan....

Helen Swan has always been an organiser - musical shows, plays, community bicycle fun rides, and a quilt-making charity to help children in need in Africa.

She has run her own successful businesses - school sports and cultural tours, and a literary services business She has also organised several book fairs.

In order to promote art in Chippenham, she co-ordinated the Art in Windows Trail for the Peacock Art Trail in 2021.

Helen has dabbled in many art forms for most of her life, from pottery, stage props and costumes, to painting and yarn art, and although she took an art course a few years ago, she followed her own path which led her to experiment with mixed (very mixed) media – using paint, fabric, sunglasses, masks, acrylic pouring, and has been known to use sweets and false eyelashes.

She feels lucky to have been invited to participate in several exhibitions in Chippenham and even sold a few artworks. This, though, is not her aim. For her art is therapeutic and absorbing. She takes pleasure in almost all that she produces, and if others like it too, then that’s the cherry on top.

You can see Helen's work at www.helenswanart.com or you can come and meet her for the Art Trail this Saturday at the Rotary Hall. She also has work at the Yelde Hall too.
