My name is Sharon. I live in Chesterfield with my husband and adult children, and the cat of course, making gorgeous items from yarn and hooks.

I have been making crochet items for about ten years and love everything about it. Yarn shopping and searching for new designs are so addictive. I rarely make the same item more than once so you can be sure your item is unique. I love a challenge and will have a go at almost anything crochet, except stuffed toys. In honour of the very large huntsman spider who had to be evicted from my kitchen at the weekend, I am making this scarf using the spider stitch 🕷

Much prettier than the spider (who was very large and didnt want to go outside!!!) and much more cuddly.

The weekend was 🤔 interesting! Saturday I whacked my head on a kitchen cabinet door and sliced my finger open on a foil tray. Sunday I scratched my arm on a door latch and half my lunch fell in the cats water bowl.

And an idiot decided to test my cars brakes on Sunday morning by driving at stupid speed on a residential road with lots of parked cars, saw me coming towards him and lost control and swerved across the road in front of me, mounting the kerb and stopped at the edge of someones garden. I was literally an inch from his car - all my front sensors were going bonkers!!! Took a while to stop shaking 🙁

So today I am having a summerhouse afternoon making a new item ready for spooky season with my furry supervisor who is currently sleeping on the job!!! Pic of finished item tomorrow - got stuffing, sewing, curls and a hat to make 😀🧙‍♀️🧹🎃

Feel so much better today with a hook in my hand 🙂

This scarf matches the hat I made a couple of weeks ago and will be part of the Autumn collection to be released in September - can't wait to show you the complete collection 🥰

For the knitting - I am going to finish the simpler scarf for now and put the more intricate one on the back burner until I can give it my full attention. Obviously needs more focus than I can give it at the minute 🤣

Learning to knit is a very bumpy ride!!!
Just took out the lifeline for the lacy section to find there are 2 sections of dropped stitches below the lace.
3rd attempt with this and I'm going to put it in time out for a little while
I find crochet so much easier, especiallu resolving mistakes

Moved onto our next hotel in Whitehaven ready to watch WH son kart. We are off home tomorrow so I should be able to put more time into my creative pursuits.

Having a short break in the northwest, 1/2 to relax at the coast, which is definitely my happy place, and the other 1/2 to watchson race at Rowrah. Still got my crochet and knitting though 🤣

So I decided to bite the bullet and give the colourful one another go. I bought the yarn specifically to make this so round 2. And now that Im further into it, and more confident with it, it feels better somehow. Can you believe this is only the third thing I've knitted? and that I only started learning properly at Christmas?

The difference between the two items though is astonishing.

Both 4 ply. Both worked on 4mm implements. The colourful one is hand dyed merino - and gorgeous to work with, the white is chain store acrylic - and still soft. But the difference between them just shows how yarn makes a massive difference to the outcome.

Time for a clean sweep!!!

A quick reset and tidy up this morning - I frogged one item, and put away resources for another. In the words of Marie Kondo - they didnt spark joy! I was actively avoiding them and making lists of other things to make so they had to go. I'm being quite ruthless with WIPs otherwise they clutter and then I get overwhelmed and nothing gets done.

As we are coming up to the midpoint of the school summer break, my thoughts do turn away from light scarves and summer bags to autumn colours and, my personal favourite, Halloween. I have lots of ideas for autumn makes and I have the yarn ready. Just feels weird making beanie hats in 30° heat 🤣

I think this might be a new favourite yarn.

Yarnsmiths pebble haze print dk in this really pretty soft turquoise pink combo. This is a different sort of yarn called a blown yarn - cotton acrylic and really soft!!!

I bought 2 cakes of this so for the remaining half of this and the other cake do I
1. Make a pretty scarf
2. Make a cowl and fingerless gloves

What do we all think??

Just a few finished pieces this week ready for the changing season - although summer is still very firmly here 🌞

I wonder if its time to think about some spooky season items?? 🤔
