lavishly redesigned. In 1987, Chesterfield Borough Council purchased and completely refurbished the building and reopened it as the Winding Wheel. In 2000 the Winding Wheel was made a Grade II listed Building. We present a diverse arts and entertainment programme including West End musicals, comedy shows, concerts, dance, opera, illustrated talks and a wide range of community events. The Pomegranate Theatre A delightful Victorian 546-seat proscenium arch theatre housed in the Grade II listed [George] Stephenson Memorial Hall. Established in 1949 this is the country’s oldest civic theatre with Chesterfield Borough Council continuing the proud tradition of providing a year round programme of professional touring and high quality local amateur productions. Over the course of a theatregoing year we aim to make audiences laugh, cry and debate.
