What local venue, café or community space means something to you?

As part of our Chester LGBTQ+ Memory Map, we're inviting you to share the places that have given you experiences, memories and a sense of belonging.

For us, two places immediately come to mind:

Rainbow Tearooms Rainbow Tea Rooms – for hosting us as we started our True Colours project all those years ago, and for continuing to provide a welcoming space for our community to connect, create and belong.

The Upside Down Cabaret – for bringing incredible LGBTQ+ performers to Chester and creating a space where our community can come together to celebrate creativity, self-expression and q***r joy.

Now we'd love to hear from you.

What local venue means something to you, and why?

Share your memory in the comments or add it to the Chester LGBTQ+ Memory Map on our website! (Link in comments)

Creative Food has arrived at Wharton Library!

Last summer, young people from Dorin Park School and DSN Youth Vibe have explored West Cheshire's food heritage through creativity, visits to local growers, and conversations about sustainable food production.

We're delighted to share some of the artwork and reflections from the project in this exhibition, celebrating local food, community knowledge, and the people who help our region grow.

Check out the recipe book on our website, filled with favourite recipes chosen by the young people that took part!

We teamed up with to provide students with a workshop on 'Reaching for their goals' using their hands as templates for the trunk of a tree.

The young people took quickly to this activity, immediately letting their creativity shine as they used various colours, techniques, and patterns to create their interpretation of their 'goal tree'.

Over the course of the workshop, it was great to see the students begin to open up and share more about their ambitions and desires, becoming more comfortable with asking for help along the way.

We hope to come back soon to work with them :)

Some really beautiful and creative work following another great session working alongside the SEND youth service in Ellesmere Port last week!

were kind enough to offer us some spare glass jars they had to work with, with the request that we bring in some glass paints.

Using paint, tissue paper, and glue on gems, the group let their creativity shine, allowing each jar to turn out completely unique and beautiful to look at!

Kindly funded by the Westminster Project as part of our Youth Voices in Action project.

What stories are hidden in the streets we walk every day?

This July, Un-Shuttered - LGBTQ+ Histories Hidden in Plain Sight begins at Radiate Arts - a new photography and storytelling project exploring LGBTQ+ identity, memory and belonging across Chester.

Together we’ll explore the city through a q***r lense, exploring photography walks, creative reflection, zine-making and shared storytelling, uncovering personal and community histories that are often overlooked.

No photography experience needed just curiosity, creativity and a willingness to explore.
