We've joined forces with the fantastic University of Gloucestershire team this year to give Film & TV Production students the opportunity to gain hands-on industry experience while working alongside our FilmChelt 2026 team.

Students are creating promotional reels, helping to run our TikTok and producing a fly-on-the-wall documentary capturing everything that goes into bringing a 10-day film festival to life - from selecting and programming films to the festival itself.

Supporting and encouraging the next generation of filmmakers is a huge part of what FilmChelt is all about, and we're looking forward to seeing the festival through their lens.

FilmChelt is run by a fantastic army of volunteers, so if you'd like to be part of the festival, we'd love to hear from you! 🎬

Whether you're passionate about film, looking to gain experience or simply fancy getting involved with one of Cheltenham's cultural events, come and join the team.

Breaking News! We are excited to reveal four new additions to the already announced FilmChelt 2026 programme. Tickets now on sale!

Three of them premiere at the BFI London Film Festival in October, and just two weeks later you can catch them here in Cheltenham for their second UK showings!

1) INK
Danny Boyle turns the birth of The Sun into a riotous Fleet Street drama, with Guy Pearce and Jack O'Connell as Rupert Murdoch and editor Larry Lamb.

2) TENDER LOVING CARE
Mike Leigh's tender and gently humorous drama follows two best friends working as social workers while trying to hold together their own complicated lives — and may prove to be the veteran director's final film.

3) ELSINORE
Andrew Scott is on magnificent form as Chariots of Fire star Ian Charleson, fighting to revive his theatre career with Hamlet while navigating the backstage world of 1980s London and a secret diagnosis of AIDS.

4) VIOLETTE
25 years after Amelie, Jean-Pierre Jeunet returns with a ravishing, twisty mystery with an inquisitive, dark haired, brown eyed heroine at its centre.

This year, FilmChelt’s AI strand explores some of the most pressing questions surrounding artificial intelligence, creativity and our increasingly complicated relationship with technology.

Through films including Synthetic Sincerity, The Last Screenwriter and Colossus, alongside our free AI Panel, we’ll be asking what happens when technology begins to blur the boundary between something created and something truly human.

As our programme receives its fabulous final touches, we’re giving you a first look at two fantastic pre-release films coming to this year’s festival.

These films won’t be released to the public for a number of months, so you’ll be able to get an exclusive viewing right here at FilmChelt 2026.

Minotaur

Russia, 2022. When Gleb, a successful company director, finds himself under siege from mounting corporate pressures and an increasingly unstable world, the collapse of his carefully ordered life accelerates toward violence.

La Gradiva

A class of high school students travels to Pompeii to discover ruins and bodies petrified by Vesuvius. The trip becomes a rare moment when the force of youth meets a world frozen in time. Their desires start to surface with unexpected intensity, leading them toward an irreversible fracture.
