We thoroughly enjoyed being in the audience of the Midlands Choir of the Year Competition at Lichfield Cathedral on Sunday evening! An amazing night filled with stunning performances. Congratulations to all those who took part -but special congratulations to MaleVox who won the judges vote and Choir and Staffordshire Show Choir who jointly came out as winners with the audience! What an amazing setting to raise the rafters!
MALEVOX WIN MIDLANDS CHOIR OF THE YEAR 2024 AT THE LICHFIELD FESTIVAL
I was yesterday years old when I found out those giant cheques are not real. They even wiped the dry-wipe marker off right in front of us. Anyway...
We are all absolutely buzzing after last night, not least because of the incredible overall standard of the other competitors. We would have happily seen any of the night’s other acts taking the judge’s prize (everyone was genuinely excellent), but we were more than pleasantly surprised when our name was called at the end.
A quick shout out to the other competitors, all of whom were phenomenal: The Derwent Singers, Inspire Choir at The Hub St Marys - Lichfield, VocaBella (a special nod for the foray into barbershop in their set), The Staffordshire Show Choir and Chanteuse Chamber Choir. Also, the previous winners, Cor Bach, who gave a wonderful rendition of Mr Blue Sky (an interpretation of the same arrangement that we sing in MaleVox).
Thanks also to all of the staff and volunteers at the Midlands Choir of the Year. It was an excellent event which we felt honoured to have even been a part of.
MaleVox are currently recruiting, so if you or someone you know might be interested in trying out for an award-winning choir, please do get in touch! Our fortnightly rehearsals in Birmingham city centre are always open, so even if you just want to come down and watch/listen to us, we would love to have you!
A number of other events in the MVX calendar will be going public soon, including another of our education days/a capella workshops, which are an excellent opportunity for those looking to dip their toe in our, er, waters, with full access to learning materials in advance. Watch this space!
Thanks so much for your support, and thanks to all of the choirs (around the Midlands/UK/World) who choose to work so hard to make beautiful sounds together. You are all helping to make the world a better place. X
(P.S. Shout to all those who joined in with the ham banter - hamter, if you will - in the online Q&A. You are the festival's unsung heroes, all of you.)
