🌟How to shop for good Prosecco in Italy 🌟
You’re in Italy. You want to drink local but you’ve been scarred by the horrible, chemical-tasting bottomless-brunch, hen-party, supermarket £6 Prosecco that dominates the U.K. As you may suspect, this is not what the Italians drink. So how do you find the good stuff when in Italy?

Look out for any of (or a combination of) these terms on the label:

- Cartizze
- Superiore
- Valdobbiadene
- Conegliano
- Rive di…
- Asolo
- DOCG

Unless you’re buying for Bellini’s or Aperol Spritz generally avoid those that simply say - ‘Prosecco DOC’. (Rule of thumb, don’t shoot me!).

Often the best Prosecco won’t even say Prosecco, for example the ‘grand cru’ of Prosecco, ‘Superiore di Cartizze’. Check the label - if it doesn’t say Prosecco but you can deduce it’s from the region of Veneto or Friuli Venezia Giulia (check it doesn’t have a different provenance altogether stated somewhere since basic Charmat fizz is made all over Italy) you may well have a high-quality, terroir-specific ‘Prosecco’ on your hands.

I have the fresh new 2021 vintage of the delicious Château D’Ollières rosé - from the Coteaux Varois subregion of Provence, meaning slightly elevated in the breezy hills rather than further down on the sun baked coast. For the taste, style and price I still haven’t found a better Provençal rosé which is why it’s the same one I’ve stocked for 3 vintages now!
