Well, we couldn’t spend ALL day napping, could we? 🤣♥️

After last night’s rather worrying adventures with Captain Jackson, we were all in serious danger of sleeping the day away.

Which sounds lovely in theory, but we’ve got a pretty exciting couple of days ahead and actually need to sleep tonight!

So, determined not to turn into a boatload of zombies, we took Jackson for a lovely gentle walk before popping over to see Daisy and Lloyd for a cuppa and a catch-up.

And as always, it was just what we needed. ♥️

There’s something rather wonderful about spending time with friends who can help you put the world to rights one minute and have you absolutely howling with laughter the next.

Good friends really are good for the soul. 🥰

And just before we left, Daisy gifted me this!

A 17-year-old edition of NarrowBoat magazine, dedicated to the Grand Union Canal Carrying Company fleet.

And guess who’s a proud member of that fleet?

OUR NEBS! 🧡🖤

What an absolutely lovely and thoughtful gift. I’m going to thoroughly enjoy having a proper read through this little piece of history.

Meanwhile, Captain Jackson has apparently recovered enough to organise his social calendar.

He’s got a lunch date with Daisy tomorrow. 🤣🐾

Clearly the most important appointment in the diary.

Right, an early night for us, hopefully. We’ve got some exciting things coming up over the next couple of days!

A bit of a worrying night aboard Beanie. ♥️🐾

Some of you might remember that back in April, Captain Jackson had what we suspected was a seizure.

Well, sadly, we think he had another episode last night.

Shaking, very uncoordinated and generally quite out of it.

The actual suspected seizure may have been very brief, but the whole episode, including the after-effects, lasted around 10 hours on and off. Very similar to what happened back in April.

We took him to the emergency vet last time and were warned that it was likely to happen again.

At the time, we were advised that there wasn’t much more we could do other than keep him comfortable and safe, unless the episodes started becoming more frequent. Then we’d need to have a different conversation.

It’s horrible seeing your normally cheeky, treat-demanding, occasionally selectively deaf little companion looking so vulnerable.

We’re all a bit tired today, Cheesters.

Give your four-legged companions an extra cuddle from us today. ♥️🐾

WELL, THAT WAS UNDERWHELMING. 🤣🤣

Apparently there was an aurora visible over 95% of the UK tonight.

So, naturally, we immediately organised a family outing. All three of us rushed to the bow, gazed skywards and prepared to be dazzled by the Northern Lights.

And…

Nothing.

Not a sausage.

Not even a slightly enthusiastic green smudge. 🤣

We did, however, get a rather lovely view of the stars and a few clouds.

Apparently we live in the other 5%. 😂

Still, it was a nice family outing. Didn’t even have to leave the boat.

Anyone else manage to see anything?

PLEASE SHOW ME YOUR PHOTOS, CHEESTERS! I want to see what we missed! 🤣💚💜

SATURDAY BOATY TRADER SHOUT OUT! 🧡🖤 (totally gonna make that thing).

Today we’re giving a big shout out to Oliver from Knot for Profit, who’s made Beanie some rather fabulous new tipcat fenders!

And aren’t they beauties?! 😍

These aren’t just for decoration. They’re a pretty vital bit of kit for our new two-boat adventures.

You see, Nebs is an unpowered butty, which means she has absolutely no way of slowing herself down.

So when Beanie slows down, Nebs just keeps coming.

HELLOOOOO BEANIE! BONK! 🤣

These chunky beauties will help protect Beanie’s stern and, more importantly, her rudder from Nebs getting a little too affectionate.

And here’s the really lovely bit… ♥️

Oliver supports Freedom from Torture, a charity providing specialist psychological therapy to help refugees and asylum seekers who have survived torture to recover and rebuild their lives in the UK.

So not only are we supporting a fellow boaty trader, we’re supporting someone who’s using his skills to make a genuine difference.

Thank you, Oliver! ♥️

Oh, and before the eagle-eyed boaters start twitching… 👀

IGNORE THE LENGTH OF THE CROSS STRAPS IN THE PHOTOS!

These were taken before we’d adjusted them to fit properly. You can put your tape measures away now. 🤣

P.S. Does anyone need a double-length button fender in bloody good condition?

Give me a shout with a fair offer!

Beanie’s having a clear-out. Apparently acquiring a second boat means we now have LESS room for stuff. 🤣

Well, that’s quite a difference! 🤣🤣

Back in July we popped Beanie and Nebs side by side so we could take some important measurements for the welding work.

At the time, their gunwales were beautifully level. Stepping between the two was an absolute dream.

Then the Buckles emptied Nebs out…

WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT WATERLINE?! 🤣🤣

That’s an awful lot of sweets she was carrying!!

She’s now sitting considerably higher in the water, which means going along the gunwales between the two boats has become something of a performance.

Think Monty Python’s Ministry of Silly Walks, but with the added possibility of an unscheduled swim. 🫣

Honestly, anyone watching us clamber between the two must think we’re auditioning for a particularly rubbish circus.

Don’t worry though, it’s only temporary!

Once we’ve loaded Nebs with all her new kit and, more importantly, unloaded Beanie of the cheeseroom, we’re hoping the two will settle back down to something resembling the same level.

Until then, we’re just going to have to perfect our Ministry of Silly Walks routine. 🤣

Anyone else remember that Monty Python sketch, or am I showing my age again?! 😂

CAPTAIN JACKSON SPEAKING. 🐾

Pay attention at the back. I shall only be demonstrating my brilliance once.

Well, actually, there’s a video, so you can watch it as many times as you like. 🤣

Now, I wasn’t entirely convinced about this whole two-boat malarkey.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for expanding the family fleet, but nobody thought to consult me about the ACCESS ARRANGEMENTS.

You see, I’m a gentleman of advancing years. My legs aren’t quite what they used to be, and I’ve become rather accustomed to my lovely, gentle step on and off the stern of Beanie.

Then along comes Nebs.

With her ridiculously deep bow.

And apparently I’m expected to clamber in and out of it like some sort of canine Olympic gymnast.

Absolutely not.

My first attempt was less than dignified, and I made my feelings perfectly clear.

Fortunately, my humans are a determined and patient pair. Even more fortunately, I am EXTREMELY motivated by treats. 🧀

So, with a strategically positioned gangplank, a temporary box to give me a helping paw and enough encouragement to make me think I’d won Crufts, we got to work.

Initially, I needed lifting through every stage.

But now?

LOOK AT ME GO!!! 🎉🐾

I’ve gone from requiring a full assistance team to practically demanding scorecards at the end of each performance.

I’m expecting 10s across the board, obviously.

My humans seem ridiculously pleased with themselves, but let’s be clear about something.

I did all the hard work. They just supplied the snacks. 🤣

And yes, I fully expect you to watch my ENTIRE performance.

No skipping ahead. No wandering off to make a cuppa.

I’ve worked hard for this moment.

Now, Cheesters… scores out of 10, please! 🐾🏆

Happy Friday, Cheesters!! 🧡🖤

It’s a bit blowy down here today. Good job we’re not planning on moving. 🤣

I had a rather sleepless night thanks to something rattling in the wind.

It reminded me of when I first bought a boat and EVERY unfamiliar noise was obviously a sign of imminent disaster.

By about 3am I’d convinced myself that the wind had snapped Nebs’ ellum, ripped off her back hatch AND popped open the little windows in her top plank.

So, naturally, I emerged this morning expecting carnage.

The damage? A few leaves. 🤣

I suspect the rattling was actually a little movement between the boats. I’m still learning how to get them properly snug together. Not helped by the fact that Beanie is 62ft and Nebs is 72ft. Apparently we don’t do anything the easy way!

My morning cuppa was accompanied by these four gorgeous young swans. I’m still calling them cygnets, although they’ve recently fledged, so perhaps they’re teenagers now? Either way, they were making an almighty racket looking for Mum and Dad.

Speaking of noise…

We’ve discovered the absolute JOY of not being moored towpath-side! 🎉

No early morning dog walkers having conversations at approximately 900 decibels. No thundering feet of runners. Just glorious peace and quiet.

In fact, it’s SO quiet that when Daisy and Lloyd popped down yesterday, they actually had to PHONE us because we couldn’t hear Daisy shouting!

And anyone who knows Daisy will appreciate just how impressive that is. 🤣🤣.

Right, things to be getting on with. We’re off to talk to a man about a job later.

Ooooh, mysterious. 👀

In the meantime, tell me… what’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever convinced yourself was happening in the middle of the night, only to discover it was absolutely nothing? 🤣

Have a fabulous Friday, Cheesters! ♥️

SIZE MATTERS! 🤣🤣

You know when you order something online and it arrives WAY smaller than you expected?

Usually because you didn’t bother reading the description properly and apparently thought the universe would just know what size you wanted.

Well…

One of our lovely Cheesters got in touch recently to ask if we’d be interested in a couple of fenders she’d spotted on a Facebook group.

I had a look at the photo. The photo looked like it was zoomed in close.

Ooh, lovely! A couple of monkey fist sized fenders. Always handy to have some spares.

“Yes please!”

Today we met up to collect them.

Cheesters.

I HAVE NO WORDS. 🤣🤣🤣

They’re not monkey fists.

THEY’RE KING KONG’S BALLS.

I genuinely don’t know whether to hang them off the boat, use them as emergency mooring anchors or enter them into the World’s Strongest Man competition. 😂

And judging by the look on Captain Jackson’s face, he’s equally concerned about what we’ve brought home.

The best bit?

We now own TWO boats and apparently still don’t have enough room for our accessories. 🤣

Anyway, enormous thanks to our lovely Cheester for thinking of us. They’re absolutely brilliant, even if they’re approximately 400% bigger than I imagined. ♥️

Please tell me I’m not the only person who’s ever spectacularly misjudged the size of something?!

I need your stories, Cheesters. Make me feel better. 🤣

**WE MOVED!!!!! 🎉🧡🖤**

A whole… **QUARTER OF A MILE.** 🤣🤣

But I DON’T CARE! We moved TWO BOATS, all by ourselves, and I’m calling that a bloody great success. There was even a bridge involved. 😂

Even in that tiny distance I’ve learned just how different Beanie feels with a butty attached to her side.

And before the experienced boaters start shouting…

**“WHY DIDN’T YOU SINGLE OUT ONTO CROSS STRAPS?!”**

Because we knew exactly where we were mooring and it was easier to keep the girls breasted up. Plenty of time for cross-strap adventures! 🫣

Once moored, we shuffled Beanie forward so the bows are together. That’s now our new getting on and off point.

**Our new front door, if you will.** 🚪🤣

Obviously, if both boats were the same length, life would be easier. But I don’t recall us applying for the *Making Life Easier* package. 😂

Then we spent the afternoon helping Captain Jackson adjust to his new routine. 🐾

Nebs is proving a little challenging, but with strategically placed boards and plenty of treats, we’re getting there. Although I suspect he’s worked out that **hesitation = MORE TREATS.** 🤣

We also popped our little Three Sheep Cheese Boat banner onto Nebs’ back cabin. It’s temporary until we get to the workshop in November, but it covers up the Buckles’ phone number nicely.

I don’t think they need people ringing them every time we make a mistake and annoy someone. 🤣

**OH! Speaking of land trading…**

BLISWORTH CHEESTERS … We’ve got some rather lovely news for you about Christmas! Not telling you yet though. **WATCH THIS SPACE!** 😁🧀

Right. I’m off to stare at Nebs some more.

How has your Thursday been? Tell meeeee! We love hearing what you’ve all been up to. 🥰

Morning, Cheesters! 🧡🖤

What an absolutely gorgeous morning on the cut. ☀️

The water is like a mirror, the sun is shining and I’ve already witnessed something rather special.

I watched some cygnets take flight for the very first time! 🦢🥹

I was so completely in awe that I didn’t even think to reach for my phone to take a photo.

And you know what?

Sometimes that’s absolutely perfect.

Not every lovely moment needs to be captured. Sometimes it’s enough to just stand there, watch and enjoy it. ♥️

Anyhoo… enough of this peaceful, reflective nonsense.

TODAY WE MOVE TWO BOATS. 😳🤣

A few little jobs to get out of the way this morning and then Beanie and Nebs will finally hit the high seas.

UNAIDED.

Just me, the Co-Pilot, 91-year-old Nebs and youngster Beanie, who has absolutely no idea what we’ve signed her up for. 🤣

I have butterflies.

I’m not entirely sure whether they’re excitement or sheer terror, but they’re definitely there.

WISH US LUCK, CHEESTERS! 🫣🧡🖤

And while we’re at it… what’s the last lovely thing you witnessed that made you forget all about your phone?
