Summer Sizzle is a jam-packed 2 week devised theatre project which sees 3 groups of young people:

8-11yrs Acting company
12-19yrs Acting company
12-19yrs Design and production company

…collaborate to make 2 brand new 45 minute plays based on the theme of Rhythm!

In addition to the last time we ran this programme we’ll also be joined by Anna Shields who will work with the young people to write two new songs per show. 🎶 skills!

Dates and times are:

Mon 10th to Fri 14th August 10am-5pm
Mon 17th to Thurs 20th August 10am-5pm
Fri 21st to Sat 22nd August 2-9pm

If you’re part of the acting companies you need to attend all days! We can be a little more flexible with the design/production crew.

Othello

A tempest of passion, jealousy, and betrayal takes centre stage in this gripping new production of Othello. In a world where honor and reputation are everything, the celebrated general Othello finds his greatest victory undone by whispered lies and a mind poisoned with doubt. As manipulation tightens its grip and trust begins to fracture, love is pushed to its breaking point with devastating consequences. Bold, intimate, and unflinchingly human, this reimagining of Shakespeare’s tragedy explores the fragile line between truth and deception and the darkness that can consume us when we lose sight of both.
Content guidance:  
Racism and racial slurs – The play centers on Othello as a Black man in a predominantly white society, and includes explicit racist language and attitudes.
Domestic violence – A central plotline involves emotional manipulation and physical violence within a marriage.
Murder and violence – The story culminates in multiple deaths, including intimate partner violence.
Psychological abuse and manipulation – Iago’s sustained gaslighting and deceit drive much of the tragedy.
Jealousy and coercive control – Themes of possessiveness and control in relationships are prominent.
Sexual references – There are discussions and insinuations about s*x, fidelity, and chastity.
Mental distress – Characters experience intense emotional turmoil, paranoia, and breakdowns.
Su***de – The play includes self-harm leading to death.

RIDE OR DIE! ✌️

The Kids spend the whole year arguing about whether Alton Towers is actually better than Thorpe Park. At the moment Alton Towers has got 2 votes and Thorpe Park has got 2 votes. The deciding vote goes to the youngest, Angel who hasn’t actually been to any of them yet, cause he’s in year 7 and you don’t get to go on The Theme Park Extravaganza until the end of Year 7.  But that’s literally in like 2 weeks, so it’ll be settled once and for all, very very soon!  So what could possibly go wrong?....Angel getting suspended from school, Nan going off on a surprise holiday, Dad coming round to look after them (and he’s useless) and lasts one night, and The Kids borrowing Nan’s car and colliding with a Waitrose delivery van.  The whole affair is literally a car crash.

Pornomental is a hilarious deep dive into p**n consumption…

Not the world’s most pressing issue… but one that many of us have a relationship with and do not talk about. If you let bits of our humanness sit in the shadows, they fester - so we shone big beautiful shameless lights on them to start a conversation.

There are two more chances to see this show, tomorrow at 2.30pm and 7.30pm at the in Southend.

Thank you to a wonderful production team who, despite the massive challenge they’re facing, helped deliver this wonderful show!

That’s right… we’re shining a light on our dirty little secrets. Making a show about Po*******hy.

If you can spare 30mins to fill in this survey we’d really appreciate it. You can complete it anonymously… or not and only answer what you feel cool with answering.

The show is being devised at the moment with BA World Performance students at East 15 Acting School. And will be performed at the Clifftown Theatre, Southend on Sea on 12th-14th February.
