Musical Theatre Classes. Singing Classes and Choirs. BYMT PERFORMING ARTS
BYMT offers a range of weekly Performing Arts classes including Musical Theatre, Singing and Dance. Musical Theatre classes are held weekly every Tuesday and are led by professional practitioners from the West End and Performing Arts Industry. We hold training in all three disciplines - Acting, Singing and Dancing and prod
uce three full-scale Musical productions each year. We aim to give the students an insight into the professional practice of Musical Theatre and our students regularly complete their training at BYMT and go on to study Performing Arts further at Universities and top Drama Schools across the country. In addition to weekly classes and rehearsals we regularly invite special guests to work with our students on unique Masterclasses that are exclusive to BYMT Musical Theatre. Recent guests include Olivier and Tony Award winner Maria Friedman; Stephen Metcalfe (Head of music for Cameron Mackintosh including music supervising the Les Miserables film, the 25th anniversary production of The Phantom of the Opera and the most recent West End production of Miss Saigon); Helen Worth (Coronation Street soapstar); Russell Smith Associates (West End agency); Louis Maskell (Tony in the UK Tour of West Side Story); Melanie Brown (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - West End); Carly Thoms (currently playing Miss Honey in the UK Tour of Matilda) and Gabby Cocca (Cats at the London Palladium and the dance captain for 42nd Street in the West End). We also bring in professionals from the industry to help create and design our productions with wigs, lighting and costumes. Previous guests have visited us from West End shows including 42nd Street, Dreamgirls, Grease, Mamma Mia, Dirty Dancing and Rock of Ages. In addition to the weekly Musical Theatre training we take our students to see a West End show every year and host our Musical Theatre Summer school during August. We also offer dance classes in Jazz and Tap held on a Saturday afternoon taught by West End choreographers and dancers with an end of year Summer Show in July.
